Hey Community,

Are you, or someone you know, a Métis citizen knowledgeable in traditional or contemporary Métis art or hand crafts?

UIVS, as part of an ongoing collaboration with Otipemisiwak Métis District 3 and the Hivernants Métis Cultural Society, are currently trying to assemble an artists directory so we can better connect and collaborate with local authentic Métis creatives.

Opportunities will vary in overall size and time duration. There will be some opportunities that are paid contracts, and others that will fall under cultural protocol and honouraria. It will continue to vary event by event, project by project, and the artists who come forward and join our directory will always have the choice to accept a project opportunity or opt out.

We have some big, exciting Métis cultural events coming to the Red Deer area over this Summer and Fall and want to make sure that all Alberta Métis creators have a chance to connect with us and our planning committees!

I had the best experience at the Mètis Market and Art Walk. Met some great people, learned lots and got to connect with the community and artisans. Was surprised at how many people came out to support the market & even got to see some loved ones who came out to support as well. Such a wonderful surprise. Should have got some photos! Probably won't be my first and only market ✨

We are bringing back our historic Art Walk event this summer! ArtWalk is visual artisan and crafter event to promote local artists and sell local art. To inspire community connection and cultural appreciation by bringing people together in Red Deer's Downtown core through a vibrant celebration of local art, creativity and expression.

ArtWalk will be held August 29, 2026 at the old Buffalo Hotel site situated 50 Ave between 50th and 49th Street.

Cost to be a vendor is only $20.00 for Red Deer Arts Council Members, $30.00 for non-members, making it an accessible opportunity to sell your work for the first time!

These pieces were created in honour of awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people. The red carries deep meaning—symbolizing both remembrance and the lives that should never be forgotten.

Art can start conversations where silence has existed too long. My hope is that this work encourages awareness, reflection, and respect for the lives behind this movement.

No more stolen sisters.

Awareness matters. Naming this crisis matters. Remembering matters.
