銅造天神像

愛嬌を湛えた姿ながら、細部に至るまで丁寧に表現された学問の神様で知られる菅原道真公像。胸元には梅鉢紋を配し、眼差しや口元の表情も実に明瞭で、小像ながら格別の存在感を放っています。
永年にわたり纏った煤けた黒味は、いわゆる“ウブ味”として古色豊かな趣を醸し出しており、時代を経たものならではの魅力としてご堪能いただけることでしょう。
また、専用の厨子を伴っておりますが、蝶番にやや歪みが見られ、閉まりにくい箇所がございますので、あらかじめご了承いただければ幸いです。江戸時代。

A finely rendered figure of Sugawara no Michizane, revered as the deity of scholarship. Though charming and approachable in appearance, the figure is meticulously detailed throughout. The plum-blossom crest (umebachi-mon) adorns the chest, while the facial features—particularly the eyes and mouth—are expressed with remarkable clarity, giving this small sculpture an exceptional presence.
The deep soot-darkened surface accumulated over many years forms a rich, natural patina known in the world of Japanese antiques as ubumi, imparting a profound sense of age and atmosphere that can only be achieved through time.
The figure is accompanied by its original zushi shrine case. Please note that the hinges show slight warping, and the doors may not close smoothly in places. We kindly ask for your understanding, as this is part of the character and history of the piece.

木彫水瓶

すらりとした姿の水瓶は木彫による一作。底面には塗りが及んでおらず、小孔が穿たれていることから、もとは高僧像などの脇に配されていた荘厳具の一つであった可能性が考えられます。
造形には金属器を思わせる引き締まった線質が巧みに表現されており、金銅仏などと取り合わせて飾られますと、互いを引き立て合うのではないでしょうか。仕上げは泥下地を用いず、漆を施し、その上に金彩が加えられております。中世まで充分上がるものかと考えております。品の良い端正で格調ある佇まいが印象的。経年による相応の変化は認められるものの、総じて保存状態は良好で、塗りの堅牢さもしっかりと保たれております。

螺鈿魚形風鎮

素朴な魚形の表面に細かな青貝を貼り巡らせた螺鈿風鎮。決して技巧を誇示する類のものではありませんが、簡潔な造形と青貝の鈍い輝きが不思議な愛嬌を湛え、強く印象に残ります。
風鎮として用いるためにはある程度の重量が必要となることから、素材は素焼きの土物と思われ、その上に薄い青貝片を丁寧に伏せ込んでいます。長い年月を経たことで、螺鈿の光沢も静かに落ち着き魅力も増していると思います。日本のものか、あるいは朝鮮半島、中国に由来するものかは判然としませんが、東アジアの工芸に通底する素朴な美意識を感じさせる品。

Raden Fish-shaped Fuchin (Scroll Weights)

A charming pair of fish-shaped fuchin decorated with small pieces of shell inlay. Modest in appearance, yet the simple form and subdued shimmer of the raden give them a quiet presence.
Likely made of low-fired clay to provide sufficient weight, with thin shell fragments carefully applied to the surface. The softened patina acquired over time adds further character and depth.
The exact origin remains uncertain — Japan, Korea, or China — though the piece carries a shared East Asian folk aesthetic.

小振りの狛犬ながら、ここまで精緻に彫り上げられた作例にはなかなか出会えません。鎌倉期の彫刻を思わせる量感ある造形で、筋肉の起伏や背の骨格、立髪の表現に至るまで、この寸法を超えた迫力が感じられ、仏師の確かな技量がうかがえます。
表面には堅牢な漆が施され、その上から金彩が加えられています。金彩には経年による擦れが見られますが、時代を経たものならではの趣としての自然な味わいです。桃山〜江戸時代。

硯で墨をする際に、少量の水を注ぎ入れるための水滴です。もとは鍍金が施されていたものと思われますが、現在はその名残がごくわずかに残るのみで、ルーペでようやく確認できる程度です。
形はおおらかでバランスも良く、蝶々の文様がさりげなく刻まれている点も魅力。硯箱に納められる小振りなものではなく、独立して使われていたと思われる大ぶりの作で、手にした際の存在感も十分にあります。
実用面でも状態は良好で、水切れが非常によく、今なお気持ちよくお使いいただけます。鑑賞品としてはもちろん、実際に文房具として楽しめるところも嬉しい点です。時代は桃山から江戸時代頃。古雅な趣と実用性を兼ね備えた、味わい深い一品ではないでしょうか。

古銅獏筆架

「筆架」と表記しておりますが、本来は何らかの装飾金具の一部であったものでしょう。鼻を長く伸ばし、龍のように天を翔ける姿から、獏を表したものと見ております。艶を帯びた、やや柔らかみを感じさせる赤味のある金質で、十五世紀頃の作ではないかと考えております。日本のものか迷いますが唐物の可能性もあるでしょう。
文鎮や筆架として文房の景色に取り入れるのも趣があり、また、そのまま飾っていただいても、躍動感ある姿態を十分にお楽しみいただけます。

Bronze Baku Brush Rest
Although described here as a “brush rest,” this piece was likely originally part of an ornamental fitting of some kind. With its long, extended snout and dynamic posture soaring heavenward like a dragon, we believe it represents a baku — the mythical dream-eating creature.
The bronze has a lustrous surface and a slightly soft, warm reddish tone to the metal. We believe it may date to around the 15th century. While it could possibly be Japanese, there is also a strong likelihood that it is of Chinese origin.
Whether incorporated into the landscape of a scholar’s desk as a paperweight or brush rest, or simply displayed on its own, the piece offers a vivid sense of movement and sculptural vitality.
