Life last week: I snuck off to NZ for a solo trip to surprise my brother for his birthday. (And for my hands on my childhood photo album! 😂 👉🏾👉🏾)
I’m so grateful for the flexibility my art business gives me.
It got me thinking — flexibility doesn’t just happen.
It’s something you design for. It’s also one heck of a motivator!! It’s the number one reason that keeps me pushing forward when the artist business thing gets hard.
Being able to be parent help on school excursions, zipping to NZ mid week, taking time off without having to ask for permission…. That’s what success looks like for me! And I’m incredibly humbled by the support of my collector who allow me this privilege.🥹🥰
Here are a few things that help me step away from my business without everything falling apart:
1. Scheduling content ahead of time…OR choosing to just step away and have a break from social media.
2 Having an automated email system- commission interests are being replied to automatically without me even knowing about it. 🧘🏼♀️🙌🏽
3 Selling independently. This means I can plan launches and sales around times that work for me and my family.
4 Removing imaginary expectations- how many paintings I’m suppose to sell, how often I should show up on social media, when I should/shouldn’t be on holiday…
If you’re building your art business, give yourself permission to build it in a way that works for you — not just your followers, the algorithm, or what you think you “should” be doing. Here’s to chasing your version of success! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
