Mom's turning 78 tomorrow and doesn't remember who I am anymore. Made this yarn cake because she taught me to crochet when I was seven, sitting on her kitchen floor while she cooked Sunday gravy. Now she thinks I'm the nice lady who visits. Spent her birthday money on yarn instead of a real cake - she can't eat solids anymore anyway. Found someone selling vintage knitting needles, bought her whole collection because Mom used to collect them before forgetting she owned anything. The pink ribbons are from her wedding dress I found in the attic last week. She wore it in 1967. Tomorrow I'll bring this to the memory care unit, and she'll smile at the colors like seeing them for the first time. Maybe she'll remember teaching someone to crochet once. Maybe not. Either way, I'll pretend it's enough.
