As we close Women’s Month, we’re acknowledging some of the women whose questions, commissions and support quietly expanded what Mash.T is capable of.

Kim Selvidge, Elizabeth Joubert, Megan Hesse, Andrea Kleinloog and Sujata Chitlangia are just a few of the many women who have trusted us with ideas that stretched our thinking about material, form and scale.

To every woman who has trusted us with an idea, opened a door or challenged us to think bigger: thank you.

Axis, in the pages of VISI.

The Trapezium Pendant and Wall Sconce 3.5 are featured in “Stacking Up”—VISI’s Aug/Sep shopping edit exploring stacked, geometric and totemic forms.

It feels like a fitting context for Axis, a collection shaped through repetition, material exploration and the possibilities found in mild steel offcuts.

Swipe through to see the editorial feature and both pieces in situ.

Thank you for including our work in this edit.

The Sprinkle Light, interpreted in black.

Developed for , this custom colourway brings graphic contrast to the handwoven telewire—drawing attention to the changing patterns across each shade.

The same form. A different expression.

If you could choose just one piece from our Axis Collection, which would it be?

We asked the Mash.T team, and their reasons were as different as the pieces they chose.

In Part 1, Thokoza, Thabiso and Tshepo share the objects that speak to them through personal meaning, versatility and the experience of making.

Which one gets your vote?

Part 1 of 4.

A love letter to the city that shaped us.

Jozi moves to its own rhythm - a city of dreamers and doers, shaped by ambition, creativity and possibility.

Inspired by Hillbrow Tower, Ponte City and Sentech Tower, the Jozi Skyline Cluster transforms three familiar landmarks into lighting that carries the story and spirit of the city.

For the dreamers.
The doers.
The conscious aesthetes.
And the city that holds them.

What does Jozi mean to you?

An ice-cream tub. A cracked teacup. Yesterday’s newspaper.

We often find new purposes for things that seem finished. Axis began when we asked whether the metal left behind in our workshop could also become something new.

What have you found another use for?

The room remains the same.
But one considered piece changes how you see it.

A statement piece doesn’t simply complete a space. It draws the eye, shifts the atmosphere and gives the room a point of view.

AI-generated interiors created to imagine original Mash.T lighting designs in different spaces.

Axis, gathered as a body of work.

Eight pieces in powder-coated mild steel, shaped through apprenticeship, repetition, and the quiet discipline of making.

The collection carries what the studio taught us: how material behaves under pressure, how skill moves from one set of hands to another, and how what is often left behind can return as part of the design language.

Modular, sculptural, and intentional, Axis is a study in balance — between object and system, process and precision, audacity and restraint.

Built from the inside out.
