This month, we shine the spotlight on one of our most proudly local traders, Dishy Designs, owned by Verena Stefanie Papsch-Holman.

Founded in November 2012, Dishy Designs creates original Cape Town souvenirs, all made in South Africa. What began as a creative dream became a full-time commitment in January 2022 – a bold step that allowed this passionate small business to flourish.

The inspiration? A visit to her mother-in-law’s home where she saw an impressive collection of tea towels gathered from travels around the world. In that moment, Verena reimagined the dish cloth as something more: a keepsake filled with memories of a place.

Today, Dishy Designs brings a slice of the Mother City into homes and kitchens across the globe, offering functional, beautifully designed products that keep holiday memories alive long after visitors return home.

Verena’s personalised customer service – in English, German, Afrikaans and even a little broken French – makes every interaction special. Her love for representing her hometown and country of birth shines through in every original product she creates.

Since joining the market in 2022, Dishy Designs has become a treasured part of our market family. And for Verena, the ultimate reward is welcoming returning customers from around the world to her stall. She says, “There’s simply no greater stamp of approval than a repeat customer.”

And just like that, season is here! Find dishy designs at the Franschhoek Village Market on 1, 15 and 29 November and then every Saturday and some Sundays (weather permitting) from December onwards.

Even though my socials didn't reflect it, the last few months have been super productive, ensuring dishy designs remains fresh and relevant to the most important person in its orbit - the customer.

I look forward to immersing myself in the craziness that is season - may it be the best one yet!
