Greetings to our Facebook friends. 2023 is upon us and we will be back at the helm tomorrow after a busy year and a very welcome four weeks holiday.

There have been some recent changes in the company. Many of our loyal customers know that our dear Founder and Owner of Sash Window Specialists, my beloved brother, Gavin Vroom, sadly passed away 18 months ago from COPD. He carried on bravely to the end although this disease had taken a severe toll on his health during the last few years of his life.

Since Gavin’s passing, we have been fortunate enough to carry on with our repairs as, besides two new members, most of the team is still with us. Having been of service and working closely with Gavin for 26 years, it seemed natural for me to step in and continue with the running of the business. We were joined last year by our long-standing accountant, Kevin Boyce, who knew Gavin well and he and his wife had become family friends with Gavin and his wife, Mary. On Mary’s request, Kevin and I have now taken ownership of the company.

Just before closing for the holidays and after careful consideration, we moved from 199 Victoria Road, Southfield where we had been for over 30 years to new premises situated at No 11 Mocke Road, Diep River as there is more space available there for us. Our contact details will remain the same. As there has been a delay with our telephone connection via Telkom, we can only be contacted either through our email address, Facebook or the following cell phone number: 060 590 1984 until our phone connection is working.

We would take this opportunity to thank our customers for their support thus far in trusting our company to carry out their sash window repairs and servicing and will endeavour to continue Gavin’s good work ethic to provide quality workmanship for our clients.

What a good idea.😊

The Japanese have been producing wood for 700 years without cutting down trees. In the 14th century, the extraordinary daisugi technique was born in Japan. Indeed, the daisugi provide that these trees will be planted for future generations and not be cut down but pruned as if they were giant bonsai trees; by applying this technique to cedars, the wood that can be obtained is uniform, straight and without knots, practically perfect for construction. A pruning as a rule of art that allows the tree to grow and germinate while using its wood, without ever cutting it down.

Meerlust Wine Farm since 1756 is one of the oldest and best wineries in Stellenbosch. We have just finished restoring the old sash windows of the manor house.
