Some roots stay hidden because we have lived with them for so long that they have started to feel normal.

Psalm 19:12-14 gives us an incredibly honest prayer. David recognises that there may be sin in his own heart that he cannot clearly see, and he asks God to bring it into the light.

Sometimes we recognise the repeated reaction, temptation or habit, but we do not yet understand what is feeding it underneath.

That is why preparing the soil requires more than trying harder. We need God to show us what we cannot see for ourselves.

His purpose in exposing a hidden root is not to leave us ashamed. He brings things into the light so that He can cleanse us, change us and lead us into greater obedience.

Party wortels bly verborge omdat ons al so lank daarmee saamleef dat dit vir ons normaal begin voel.

Psalm 19:12-14 gee vir ons ’n besonder eerlike gebed. Dawid erken dat daar sonde in sy eie hart kan wees wat hy nie duidelik raaksien nie, en hy vra God om dit aan die lig te bring.

Soms sien ons die herhalende reaksie, versoeking of gewoonte raak, maar ons verstaan nog nie wat dit onder die oppervlak voed nie.

Daarom vra die voorbereiding van die grond meer as om net harder te probeer. Ons het God nodig om vir ons te wys wat ons nie self kan sien nie.

Wanneer Hy ’n verborge wortel blootlê, is Sy doel nie om ons in skaamte te laat leef nie. Hy bring dit in die lig sodat Hy ons kan reinig, verander en in groter gehoorsaamheid kan lei.

Stoor hierdie plasing en kom tydens jou volgende stiltetyd terug na die oordenkingsvraag.

The visible problem is not necessarily where the problem began.

In Mark 7:20-23, Jesus takes us beneath outward behaviour and points us back to the heart. Our words, reactions and choices often reveal something that has been growing under the surface for longer than we realised.

That matters because spiritual growth is not only about changing what other people can see. A sharp reaction may expose resentment. Comparison may reveal envy. The need to be noticed may uncover pride.

God is not asking us to become obsessed with analysing ourselves. He is inviting us to become honest before Him.

Preparing the soil means being willing to let Him show us what lies beneath the leaves.

Soms is die sigbare probleem nie waar die probleem begin het nie.

In Markus 7:20-23 neem Jesus ons verby uiterlike gedrag en terug na die hart. Ons woorde, reaksies en keuses verklap dikwels iets wat al langer onder die oppervlak groei as wat ons besef het.

Dit is belangrik, want geestelike groei gaan nie net daaroor om te verander wat ander mense kan sien nie. ’n Skerp reaksie kan wrok blootlê. Vergelyking kan jaloesie wys. Die behoefte om raakgesien te word, kan trots openbaar.

God vra nie dat ons behep moet raak met selfondersoek nie. Hy nooi ons om eerlik voor Hom te wees.

Om die grond voor te berei beteken dat ons bereid is om Hom te laat wys wat onder die blare lê.

Stoor hierdie plasing en kom terug na die oordenkingsvraag wanneer jy tyd het om rustig daaroor te bid.

Sometimes the things crowding our spiritual lives are not immediately obvious.

Hebrews 12:1 tells us to lay aside “every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up.” That distinction matters. Some things are clearly sin and need to be confessed and left behind. Other things may not be wrong in themselves, but they can still take up so much of our attention, energy or time that they begin to hinder our walk with God.

Preparing the soil of our hearts starts with noticing what has filled the space.

Today, ask God to help you see what has become too heavy, too distracting or too consuming. Not so that you can fix yourself, but so that you can respond honestly to His grace and direction.

Soms is die dinge wat ons geestelike lewe verdring nie dadelik maklik om raak te sien nie.

Hebreërs 12:1 herinner ons om alles af te gooi wat ons hinder, veral die sonde wat ons so maklik verstrik. Daardie onderskeid is belangrik. Sommige dinge is duidelik sonde en moet bely en gelos word. Ander dinge is dalk nie op sigself verkeerd nie, maar kan soveel van ons aandag, energie of tyd begin opeis dat dit ons wandel met God belemmer.

Om die grond van ons harte voor te berei, begin wanneer ons raak sien wat die ruimte gevul het.

Vra God vandag om vir jou te wys wat te swaar, te afleidend of te oorheersend geword het. Nie sodat jy jouself kan probeer regmaak nie, maar sodat jy eerlik op Sy genade en leiding kan reageer.

Stoor hierdie plasing en kom tydens jou stiltetyd terug na die oordenkingsvraag.
