📍 Boekenhoutskloof, Franschhoek Project – 2026

Good coffee, great company, and a table with character. ☕🪵

For this project in Franschhoek, we manufactured and supplied 44 mm solid face-grain Rhodesian Teak tabletops, bringing the rich colours and distinctive grain of this remarkable hardwood into a welcoming café setting.

Paired with bold red seating, exposed brickwork and dark furniture, the natural timber adds warmth and texture without competing with the surrounding interior.

A little coffee, a little character, and a whole lot of beautiful Pine. ☕🤎

Look closely at the grain, the knots and those beautiful shifts in colour. This is what makes working with natural timber so interesting, the smallest details have their own personality.

For this Pine Countertop we used a custom blend of Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C in Light Roast and Arabica, giving the solid face-grain Pine a soft, earthy warmth while allowing its natural grain patterns to remain the star of the show.

There’s a lot that happens between a piece of timber arriving in the workshop and a finished wooden surface leaving it.

Precision cutting with the Festool TS 60 and guide rail.
Surface preparation with the ROTEX RO 150.
Dust controlled with our CTL MIDI I.
And finally, bringing the grain to life with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C – Pure. 🪵

Each stage has its own job, but they all work towards the same thing — a surface that is accurate, smooth, properly finished and ready to install.

This is the part of woodworking we never get tired of: watching the timber change completely once that first coat of oil goes on.

44 mm Solid Face-grain Pine countertops, finished in a custom blend of Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C colours, Light Roast and Arabica.

The result? Beautiful, warm coffee-inspired tones that bring out the natural knots and grain patterns, giving the timber a completely different personality.

The kitchen features a generous island with a waterfall end, creating a welcoming space for everything from morning coffee to evenings spent around the counter.

A little different from our usual countertops and stair treads — but still very much about wood, restoration and seeing potential in something old.

These vintage wooden tennis rackets had definitely seen better days, so we stripped one of them right back to the original timber using some elbow grease and our incredible Festool ROTEX RO 150 geared rotary sander. Festool South Africa Dean Martin

There’s something incredibly satisfying about watching years of paint, wear and damage disappear and seeing the timber underneath come back to life.

It doesn’t need to be complicated to maintain a beautiful wooden countertop.

This is one of our Kiaat countertops being cleaned with Rubio Monocoat Surface Care — a simple look at how we maintain a Rubio-finished wooden surface.

The process really is this straightforward:

• Wipe away any loose dust
• Spray Surface Care directly onto the surface
• Wipe clean with a soft clean cloth
• Let it dry

And, of course, quality control was closely supervised by the little boss. 😂

📍 Buffelspoort Project – 2026

Often overlooked in favour of more expensive hardwoods, Pine has a charm of its own. And this kitchen is a perfect example of just how stunning it can be!

For this Buffelspoort project, we manufactured and supplied solid face-grain Pine countertops, complete with precision-cut cutouts for the sink, gas hob and waste bin.

The natural knots, flowing grain and warm golden tones give these countertops a personality that no manufactured surface could ever replicate.

Small detail. Big difference.

Routing a clean pencil edge onto one of our Pine countertops using the Festool OFKC500 cordless edge router.

The pencil edge is one of our most popular profiles because it keeps the countertop looking clean and contemporary while removing the sharpness of a square-cut edge. It’s subtle, comfortable to the touch and works with almost any kitchen style.

The OFKC500 gives us excellent control right on the edge of the workpiece - exactly where consistency matters.

📍 St. Francis Bay Project – 2025 | Part 2

For Part 1, we shared the solid Rhodesian Teak stair treads we made for this stunning St. Francis Bay home. But the timber story didn’t stop at the staircase.

For the same project, we manufactured and supplied 44 mm solid face-grain Rhodesian Teak countertops and floating shelves, carrying the warmth and character of the timber through the kitchen and bathroom spaces with the help of Rubio Monocoat South Africa Oil Plus 2C “Pure”.
