Just have to love this little guest bathroom. We are often scared to use a bold paper choice in a small space. In here my client's choice of a vinyl from Silkhouse was perfect and ephasizes the unusual height. The design draws the eyes upward, almost asking you to inhale (before you descend onto the throne šŸ˜‚). For the little window, we made a roman blind, using just a sheer fabric from Silkhouse.

The brief was to create a cohesive flow between two floors while letting the architecture breathe. The solution: A neutral textured vinyl to link the bottom and first floors. This creates a sleek, contemporary canvas and sits in beautiful opposition to the solid oak stairs. The cool colours and matte texture of the vinyl invites you to touch it.

This isn't a paper that shouts for attention. Instead, it quietly recedes, allowing the natural light to take over and paint the space with shadows and highlights. The result? Just enough drama to keep it interesting, without ever feeling loud.

The walls of this main bathroom make a statement. The client chose a Silkhouse vinyl, and it has transformed the space. The above-average height of the inner wall is now emphasised. It comes to life in the changing light- creating shadows, reflecting softness and adding a warmth that paint alone could never achieve. Indeed a serene, light-filled sanctuary.

Sometimes the best solutions are the softest. In this East-facing bathroom, the morning Pearl Valley sun was the challenge, but the arched window was the hero. Rather than obscuring it with a traditional blind, we installed a generous wave curtain in a Silkhouse sheer. It diffuses the light beautifully while drawing the eye up to that stunning architectural curve.

Client has created a sanctuary in this large open plan dining, lounge, play & bar area. We installed single wave curtains of almost 5.4m high to emphasise the gorgeous light flowing in through the large windows. For this we used a wonderfully textured Hertex fabric. The colour scheme is neutral, allowing client scope to add a variety of accent colours. The bar surround will be covered in a vinyl wallpaper for added texture.

And the Headboard has arrived. Although it is rather linear, the seams allow for some movement and play. I decided to add only four large buttons for some detail and to ensure the fabric does not move around too much. These are not centered, but sit 30cm from the top. I realise I LOVE lines and circles and wood and texture and wallpaper and .......many things. šŸ˜‚

The 2 little windows in the lounge bring in lovely bright light, as well as the greenery of the garden beyond. The goal is to soften the hard edges without losing the connection between inside and out.

A Festoon blind is a lovely solution. While often seen in traditional or colonial interiors, they are surprisingly versatile and add beautiful soft, gathered texture to a space.

The fabric Iā€™m using is the Natural Ananda in Coastal from Hertex Fabrics. I chose it for the two-tone, chunky slubby yarn (so much visual interest!), the 300cm width (perfect for seamless coverage) and the washability (essential for real life!). The texture adds incredible interest to this soft blind.

If this 22 year old Madame could talk....On a rough calculation she has survived 8 of my last moves in and around Jozi, then around Table Mountain to the gorgeous Paarl. Amazing how one looks past things that (in this case quite literally) form part of the furniture. Our trusted Headboard- rather romantic looking, don't you think? She is so old, she is back in fashion šŸ˜. Her new look entails a new fabric- linen-look I thought. Because I struggle with minimalist design (and because it is so gorgeous) an Oxford seam in place of the piping on the green headboard? Like my reading material šŸ˜Ž- best way to spend money is......?

I am super proud of my Appel 'n Ui team's awesome work in our client's Pearl Valley home! It is such a special thrill and privilege to see vision become reality. Clients wanted the magnificent views and windows to be the focal points, with the versatility and play that curtains allow. Privacy is not a main concern- what blessed people my clients are! We installed all the curtains as high as we were able to- framing the views. Despite these being almost 5.5m high the wave systems open & close with ease. Hi, the bathroom at the Gorgeous new Hertex Fabrics showroom (right here in PAARL) has the most magnificent wallpapers on display. Some of these are from the new California Dreaming book, mostly low maintenance vinyls.
