Almost every emergency call we take was avoidable. Not all of them, but most.

The pattern is familiar. A machine has been making a noise for a fortnight, or a hydraulic seep has been getting slowly worse, and nobody logged it because it was still working. Then it fails on a day when a container is waiting, and a straightforward repair becomes an urgent one.

Before operating a forklift, check its tyres, forks, mast, hydraulic system, brakes, steering, horn, battery or fuel level, warning lights and safety devices. Never operate equipment when a safety-related fault has been identified.

If your machines are out of contract, or you are not sure when they were last inspected, tell us what you are running and where.

Warehouse space in the UAE is not getting cheaper, which is why so many operations are trying to go up rather than out.

That works, but only if the equipment and the aisle were designed together. A reach truck lets you narrow the aisle and use the height you are already paying rent on. What it also needs is a level floor, an aisle laid out around the machine, and operators trained on it.

Where we see trouble is when a reach truck is dropped into a building that was designed for a counterbalance forklift. It technically fits, nobody is happy, and the throughput does not improve the way the spreadsheet said it would.

Rental is not only for companies that cannot buy. Some of our longest-standing rental customers could buy outright and choose not to.

The reasoning is usually one of three. The requirement is seasonal, so owning a machine that sits idle for four months makes no sense. Or it is a project with an end date and the equipment goes back when the project does. Or the operation is changing shape and nobody wants to commit capital to a machine that may be the wrong one in eighteen months.

We rent daily, weekly, monthly and long term across the UAE, with maintenance included — which for most customers is the real attraction, because it turns an unpredictable repair cost into a predictable monthly one.

Choosing material handling equipment on price alone is an expensive way to find out the machine was wrong for the building.

A pallet truck moves loads along the floor and does not lift to height — the cheapest way to shift pallets if you never need to stack them. A stacker lifts into low and medium racking and takes up very little room, which makes it useful where a counterbalance machine cannot turn. An electric forklift is the general-purpose one: it stacks, it loads, it works indoors and outdoors, and it is usually what an operation settles on when the work changes from day to day.

Where operations go wrong is buying for today's racking rather than the racking they are about to install — or buying a machine that technically fits the building but leaves an operator fighting it every shift.

Send us your maximum load weight, your required lifting height, and whether the work is indoors, outdoors or both. Those three rule out most of the catalogue immediately.

The objection to electric forklifts used to be charging time. That is not really the argument any more — the question now is whether your shift pattern and your charging setup suit the machine you are considering.

Worth thinking about before the purchase, not after. A single-shift operation with a proper overnight charge window has an easy decision. A two or three shift operation needs a conversation about battery type and where the charging point is going to sit.

What electric gives you inside a building is straightforward: zero tailpipe emissions, far less noise, and a cabin an operator will still be comfortable in at the end of a shift.
