Last Saturday, we visited ‘Cross Scripts’ at LAWRIE SHABIBI a summer exhibition where the lines between art, design, architecture, and craft are deliberately blurred.

The works unfold across intersecting visual languages, where geometry takes on ornamental qualities, functional objects shift into sculptural form, and familiar references are reworked through contemporary material approaches.

Spanning painting, sculpture, furniture, jewellery, and textiles, the exhibition draws subtle links between materials and methods, tracing how ideas of making travel across disciplines, histories, and geographies.

It’s an exhibition that reveals itself slowly, rewarding close looking as connections between works begin to surface over time.

In celebration of Eid al Adha, we celebrate the depth of devotion, geometry, and sacred expression through a work by
 
The composition features the name of Allah, repeated in two distinct variations and arrangements. A central triangular form is explored through shifting orientations, while the opposing composition presents the name “Allah” rendered in elegant calligraphic form. Drawing inspiration from traditional Islamic geometric patterns found in mosque architecture, Islamic monuments, and cultural institutions, the work reflects a language of symmetry, repetition, and balance.
 
Through its interplay of structure and spirituality, the piece becomes a meditation on Islamic artistic heritage, where geometry and calligraphy converge to express visual harmony and spiritual reflection.

We’re honoured to share that both Sofitel Hotel Riyadh and Kimpton Hotel Riyadh have been shortlisted for the CID Hospitality Awards!

At Sofitel Hotel Riyadh, the art narrative unfolds as a contemporary interpretation of cultural exchange where Saudi Arabia’s evolving creative identity meets the refinement, precision, and discipline of Parisian haute couture. The collection of artworks by Saudi and International artists reinterprets heritage as reinvention.

For Kimpton Hotel Riyadh, the collection takes inspiration from nature, rhythm, and atmosphere thus creating a warm, layered experience through organic forms, earthy tones, and thoughtfully integrated artworks throughout the space.

On International Museum Day, we look to the works we return to across museums in the UAE, where modernism, contemporary practice, immersive storytelling, and heritage objects are held in dialogue across distinct institutional spaces.

Pablo Picasso’s Woman with a Mandolin at Louvre Abu Dhabi explores Cubist fragmentation and shifting perception, reassembling the figure through layered viewpoints, while Form Studies IV by Ayesha Sultana at Jameel Arts Centre extends this attentiveness inward, where material, restraint, and repetition become a quiet study of process and time. This dialogue continues into the speculative with Superflux’s The DNA Library at Museum of the Future, imagining biological data as an evolving archive of memory and identity, before shifting into lived cultural histories through The Perfume House at Al Shindagha Museum, where fragrance becomes a sensory thread linking trade, ritual, and tradition. The Corridors of Calligraphy at Etihad Museum further reflects on language and identity through immersive visual storytelling rooted in Arabic calligraphic heritage.

Lastly, Pearl Scale and Weights at Zayed National Museum grounds this narrative in material objects tied to the UAE’s pearling economy and coastal life.

Together, these works reflect how museums hold more than objects on display; they hold shifting ways of seeing, remembering, and returning to culture across time and place.

Yesterday at 8th Street Studio, open studios unfolded through thoughtful exchanges, evolving works, and close-up glimpses into each artist’s process.
 
Moving through each space offered a closer look into the artists’ processes, materials, and evolving narratives, revealing the layers of experimentation and intention behind every piece. The experience was a reminder that some of the most compelling encounters with art happen before a work is ever considered finished.

As Art Dubai comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the works that lingered with us long after we walked past them. Pieces that challenged perspective, sparked conversation, and quietly demanded attention.

From bold contemporary statements to deeply personal narratives, this 20th edition reminded us why art continues to move beyond aesthetics, becoming memory, dialogue, and emotion all at once.
