More than comfort or ornamentation, cushions have always played a vital role in how people gather.

In the age of the Mughals, courtly gatherings often unfolded on richly carpeted floors—a cultural etiquette that allowed guests to come together without losing intimacy. Within this open space, cushions defined places for them, offering more than just comfort.

From the emperor’s gaddi (seat pad) to masnads (cylindrical bolster) and takias(side cushions), each piece was crafted in rich textiles, intricate brocades, and jewel-toned embellishments, adding to the grandeur and ambience of the occasion.

Centuries later, even as seats rose and grew more distinguished, cushions continued to hold spaces together, grounding them with warmth and familiarity.
