April didn’t ask for permission.
It just showed up. Full, loud, and completely unplanned in the best way.

There were rooms where ideas collided and came out better for it. Suppliers who reminded us that the most beautiful things are still made slowly, by hand. A mentoring conversation that left me thinking for days after. A museum visit that refilled something we didn’t even realize was running low. A recognition we are still letting sink in.

And then one of our own got engaged 💍🥹 and yes we cried. Obviously.

This month held so much. Professionally, creatively, personally. And I think that is what I love most about this work. When you build something real, life finds a way of showing up inside it too.

A space can have the most considered materials and the most beautiful furniture and still fall flat. More often than not, lighting is why.

Lighting sculpts. It seduces, revealing a room’s character without touching a single surface. Getting the layering right is everything, we think about it in terms of conversation, overhead, eye level, low to the ground. Each lighting source playing off the next, building a depth that shapes how a space is felt before it is understood. Then give it a dimmer and let the room decides its own mood.

Uncertain times have a way of asking the questions you’d been too busy to sit with. For those of us who build things —with our hands, our ideas, our years — that’s actually a gift, even when it doesn’t feel like one.

Purpose isn’t loud. It doesn’t announce itself. But when the ground shifts, it’s the thing still standing.

Before the quiet of a finished room, there is concrete dust, raised voices and discussions about things that look like nothing but change everything.

It starts long before the site does. Months of research, architectural drawings, measurements taken and retaken, and consultant meetings where the smallest decisions get pulled apart before they are ever committed. By the time we arrive on site, the work already runs deep.

And still, the site surprises you. Light arrives differently than the drawings said it would. The proportions that read correctly on paper ask to be reconsidered in person. We have stood in that noise across enough projects now to know what to listen for. That read, built over years of doing the work at every stage, is what the finished space carries.

Most people only see where a space ends up. This is where it actually begins.
