These days, it can feel like business as usual again. And then an hour later, the uncertainty quietly creeps back in.

Over the past few days, I have found myself thinking a lot about teams. Not just teams as organisations, but teams as communities. The people who check in on each other, who show up, who keep moving forward even when the world around us feels unsettled.

Being back in the office this week felt important. Seeing everyone together again brought a sense of calm for many, especially for those who live alone. We first checked in with one another, talking about what each of us had seen or felt in our neighbourhoods. And then, the conversations shifted back to projects, timelines, and the work ahead. It reminded me how much energy comes from simply being in the same room.

What has also been encouraging is the confidence we continue to see from our clients. Projects are not stopping. People are focused on getting things back on track, reaffirming timelines, and continuing to move forward.

I am also grateful for the leadership across the UAE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, creating an environment where businesses, teams, and families can continue to move forward with stability.

What many foreign media outlets do not see is the level of trust many of us as expats place in our governments here. The transparency and timely communication give people confidence that our safety and wellbeing remain a priority.

At DZ Design, our work continues across Dubai, Riyadh, Kuwait and Accra. Every project we work on is a collaboration between designers, clients, consultants and contractors. A reminder that none of us does this alone. And perhaps that is the real lesson in times like these.

Materiality defines how a space feels long before it is experienced.

At .dubai , wood was intentionally introduced as a grounding element across lockers, benches, doors and joinery. In a high-performance environment dominated by movement and energy, natural timber brings balance.

In the locker rooms and transition areas, timber creates a sense of calm, ensuring the space feels human rather than clinical.

Take a closer look at the interior design behind a new Mexican restaurant.
A custom black marble dining table anchors the space, surrounded by rust velvet seating and layered under sculptural brass lighting. The true focal point a full height mosaic mural crafted from rich, small-format tiles brings depth, movement, and artistry through its bold, nature-inspired composition.

Refurbishment is not about starting over. It is about knowing what to keep.

At Mövenpick Hotel Apartments, transformation began with respect for what already existed.

These bedside tables were solid wood, well made, and full of potential. Rather than replacing them, we refreshed their form with a new paint finish and introduced marble tops to elevate both look and longevity.

This is where design becomes responsible. Retaining, upcycling, and extending the life of furniture while delivering a renewed guest experience.
