Such a universal, accessible, and versatile structural material plywood is. It is made by adhering an odd number of thin sheets (or “plies”) of soft- or hardwood together so that the grains of adjacent layers are arranged at right angles. This construction technique makes the material strong, and the plywood becomes stronger the more veneers are used. Plywood is graded for exterior or interior use depending upon the water resistance of the glue used to stick the plies together, and, depending on the finish of the exterior layer and the strength of the internal ones, uses for plywood vary from basic construction (sub-floors, millwork and roofs) to more refined purposes (furniture, wall panels and floors).

Marine Plywood

Plywood is a manufactured wood panel made from thin sheets of wood veneer. It is one of the most widely used wood products. It is flexible, inexpensive, workable, and re-usable, and usually can be manufactured locally. Plywood is used instead of plain wood because of plywood's resistance to cracking, shrinkage, splitting, and twisting/warping, and because of its generally high strength.

Plywood layers (called veneers) are glued together, with adjacent plies having their wood grain at right angles to each other, to form a composite material. This alternation of the grain is called cross-graining and has several important benefits: it reduces the tendency of wood to split when nailed at the edges; it reduces expansion and shrinkage, providing improved dimensional stability; and it makes the strength of the panel consistent across both directions. There is usually an odd number of plies, so that the sheet is balanced—this reduces warping. Because plywood is bonded with grains running against one another and with an odd number of composite parts, it is very hard to bend it perpendicular to the grain direction.

What is a Shuttering Plywood ?

Film Faced Densified Shuttering Plywood is capable of a high level of performance of performance for varied uses in the construction industry like building bridges, tunnels, heavy industries power plant, defense structures & other concrete structures.

It is manufactured from selected veneers peeled from hardwood plantation and treated with specially manufactured phenolic resin for longer durability and better performance. The surface of Shuttering plywood is over laid with 180 GSM Phenol Impregnated Film. The sides are resealed by acrylic paint to preserve moisture absorption and swelling. The entire process of manufacturing veneers, resins, film and densified plates is completed in-housing modern and well-equipped plant.

Advantages of Shuttering Plywood

FFDSP has 30% more layers of veneers resulting in superior nailing, screw holding properties and load bearing capacity. The product has 300% more retention of resin then ISI grade shuttering and is therefore a better product than ISI grade plywood. Using Shuttering Plywood results in substantial cost saving since it can be use up to 40 times for shuttering applications. It improves construction speed and reduces manpower requirements. It is the ideal framework material for precast, concrete molds since it is free from dents, non-corrosive and imparts an evenly fine finish on the concrete surface. This result in additional cost saving since no replastering or finishing is required.
