Placing this fresh hand-cut silhouette inside Marie Antoinette’s opulent bedroom at Versailles felt like a nod to the birthplace of the art form itself.

The term “silhouette” actually originated in 18th-century France—born in an era where delicate paper shadow-portraits became a beloved craze among European royalty and nobility.

Looking at this profile set against the gilded green silk and historic splendour of the 1700s, it’s amazing how little the core of the craft has changed. Trends, fashions, and centuries come and go, but a hand-cut profile remains completely timeless.
