Kennebunkport, Maine is a delightful seaside town known for the Bush family summer residence.

The timber homes date from the 1700’s and are immaculately restored with perfectly manicured yards. These are a few of my favourites, including the whimsical Wedding Cake.

Boothbay Harbor, Maine houses range from timber shacks to waterside summerhouse mansions.

With only 600 full time residents on Southport Island swelling to approximately 2000 in summer most are summer retreats and not winterised.

The more interesting were the shacks with the original structure in some cases dating back to the 1700’s. Passed downed through the families and sized to meet their evolving needs. Each with a unique character and story.

The colours are inspired by the marine life. Shark grey and seal grey popular for the homes, and ‘pops’ of lobster red or puffin orange used as an accent for doors.

Who doesn’t love a Japanese bath? Deeper and shorter baths that immerse the whole body for a great soak.

This Wet Room bathroom design at is one of the best I have experienced. A large shower area that didn’t drown the whole space and the centre piece bath grounds the whole space including the basins that were part of the dressing room. Bathroom design at its best!

The DIA NSW Branch Council is delighted be hosting the Inclusive Design Series, a program of lectures and interactive workshops emphasising inclusive design principles in daily design practices.

Over the year, we will host a series of talks and workshops, each examining approaches to inclusive design from different perspectives and through varying specialisations.

Our first talk focusses on indigenous design and we are thrilled that Ros Moriarty and Johnny Bridges from Balarinji have agreed to share their stories with us, spanning the incredible 40 year history of Balarinji.

Balarinji is Australia's foremost Indigenous design and strategy studio. As an Aboriginal-owned studio, Balarinji was founded on authentic engagement with Aboriginal people, culture, art, stories and identity. Balarinji's work is an authentic response to Place and Country that is informed by local Aboriginal knowledge holders, storytellers and creatives.

John and Ros Moriarty of Balarinji were awarded the 2022 DIA President's Prize.

DIA Members $40
Students: $25
Non member tickets: $80

Ticket includes event access, refreshments and networking.
