🎆 Dot of the Week – Fireworks 🎆

Straight stitches only this week!

Start by securing a 4" felt circle to a 5½" low-volume background square using evenly spaced straight stitches around the edge of the circle.

Next, mark the centre with an erasable pen and work a French knot using the same thread colour as the stitches around the outside edge.

Create the fireworks design by stitching four rings of straight stitches radiating from the centre. Begin with a ring of short stitches close to the French knot, then add three more rings, increasing the stitch length as you work outwards. Alternate thread colours to create a bright, playful burst of colour and stagger the stitches between each ring for a balanced fireworks effect.

This block is a great way to practise stitch placement and stitch length while creating a cheerful design with very simple stitches.

What a wonderful exhibition by the Bendigo & District Quilters at Craft Alive Bendigo!

I have been proud to be a member of the club since 2018 and am constantly inspired by the talent, creativity, and generosity of its members. In many ways, I would not have opened Patchwork Place Bendigo without the encouragement and support of this amazing group. Their kindness and belief in my small business have meant so much to me.

I am also incredibly proud of Nathan Goldfields Longarm . He had the honour of quilting several of the beautiful quilts featured in the exhibition.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to such a stunning display of quilting talent. I am already looking forward to the next exhibition in two years' time.

Free Dot of the Week – Block 20 💛

This week we're stitching a 4" felt circle onto a 5½" low-volume background square.

Using an air-erasable Sewline pen, mark a heart in the centre and 8 evenly spaced points around the outside of the circle. Start chain stitching from the bottom point of the centre heart and work your way around.

At each of the 8 marked points around the edge of the circle, stitch two chain stitches to form a small heart. Once the hearts are complete, fill the spaces between them with running stitch.

Join in any time—there is no pressure, and it is completely free. Collect the dots each week and enjoy stitching at your own pace.

A wonderful day with the talented Veronique Diligent! ✨

Thank you for travelling from Melbourne to teach at Patchwork Place Bendigo. We spent the day working on Veronique's beautiful 2 Rue Paradis quilt, learning embroidery, appliqué, and creative stitching techniques using gorgeous Liberty Tana Lawn fabrics.

There was plenty of stitching, learning, laughter, and inspiration shared throughout the day. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a fun class.

🌟 Dot of the Week – Block 18 🌟

Join in any time! A new free Dot of the Week block is posted every Friday.

🪡 Requirements:
• One 5½" background square
• One 3" felt circle
• One 1" felt circle
• Embroidery threads in 3 colours
• Appliqué glue

Instructions:

Use appliqué glue to position the 3" felt circle in the centre of the 5½" background square.

Glue the 1" felt circle in the centre of the larger felt circle.

Secure the small circle with 12 straight stitches radiating from the centre like sun rays.

Work French knots evenly around the edge of the large felt circle, securing it to the background as you stitch.

Add a lazy daisy stitch beside each French knot.

Stitch a straight stitch inside each lazy daisy using a contrasting thread colour.

A cheerful little design using simple stitches and three thread colours to create plenty of texture and detail.
