Some days remind me exactly why I do this.

Today the store was full of people choosing creativity. New faces discovering the joy of yarn crafts, regular visitors dropping in for a chat, projects being planned, colours being chosen and stories being shared.

After everyone had gone home and the shelves were restocked, the floor washed and the lights dimmed, I stood for a moment and looked around. I couldn’t help but feel grateful for this beautiful community that has grown around Castle Handmade.

Here are a few photos I took as I was leaving tonight. A quiet store after a wonderfully busy day.

This beautiful beret, ‘Beret – Simple and Sweet’by ConnieLene Johnston, is a free pattern and such a lovely way to enjoy the gorgeous Zealana Rimu yarn. Soft, warm and light to wear, it’s the perfect small project for cooler days.

The knitted Diamond Lace Cowl is soft, lightweight and elegant — and best of all, it only uses one ball of Zealana Kauri Fi*****ng. Our sample is knitted in the stunning shade Dark Moana, with the pattern available in store and online so you can choose your own perfect colour.
Also new is the gorgeous Zinnia Crochet Cowl by Carole Schumann — a striking two-colour design worked in a fun pinwheel-style pattern. I’ve put together ready-to-go kits including the pattern and yarn, with several colour combinations available.
