There's something so special about letting the schoolyard become your art supply 🌿

In this activity, students head outside to collect berries, flowers, leaves, soil, spices and whatever else spring has to offer. They grind each material into a pigment using a stone, steep it in water and paint with colours they made completely from scratch.

Beyond the joy of it, students explore colour theory, material properties and the science of natural pigment and they keep a record of their ingredients and colours for future sessions. A genuinely rich cross-curricular activity and one of the best reasons to take your class outside this season.

Thank you to every attendee who gave their time, and to the presenters who poured so much into each session, it was an honor to create with you!

If you attended, we'd love to know: what's the one thing you're taking back into your classroom or practice? Drop it in the comments 💬

These paper skeleton hands might be our favourite Halloween classroom craft.

Students trace their own hand, cut it out and fold and curl each finger to create a set of paper skeleton hands that look genuinely impressive. It ticks a lot of boxes at once:
✋ Fine motor skills
✂️ Scissor technique
📐 Spatial awareness

All while giving students something they actually want to take home. It also crosses over beautifully into a human body unit or Day of the Dead, so it works well beyond Halloween season too!

Would your class give these a go? 🦴 Tell us in the comments.

Is your classroom ready for spooky season? 🎃✂️👻

A table filled with Halloween art and craft materials can open up plenty of possibilities for creative classroom making.

Rather than working towards one outcome, give students a selection of colours, textures and materials and encourage them to experiment, construct and develop their own Halloween-inspired creations.

It’s a fun way to bring student choice and creative problem-solving into a seasonal classroom activity with plenty of spooky fun along the way! 🦇✨

What would your students create from this craft table?

Easter, Halloween, Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day… there’s always another creative occasion around the corner in the classroom! ✂️🎨

Keeping a versatile mix of art and craft materials on hand means you’re ready when those special dates pop up on the teaching calendar without needing to reinvent the craft cupboard every time.

Different colours, textures and materials give students plenty of opportunities to cut, construct, decorate and make their creations their own, whatever the occasion ✨

Which celebration gets your students most excited to start crafting?

There's something so satisfying about watching a Halloween face come together piece by piece🎃

Students start with a paper plate base, then add cover paper for hair and clothing, pom poms, chenille stems twisted into features and those creature eyes that make every single character look completely different.

A great low-prep activity for exploring character design, mixed media and creative decision-making across a range of year levels. Would your class love this one? ✨

There is something truly special about watching soft pastel come to life on a large sheet of paper 🧡🎨

Every piece here was created by Nic Plowman using earth tone and skin tone dry pastels on A2 cartridge paper: a medium that blends beautifully, builds rich colour through layering and rewards expressive, intuitive mark-making.

A stunning classroom medium for exploring portraiture, tone, texture and colour mixing. Suitable for a wide range of year levels and adaptable to many different creative briefs.

Have you used soft pastel with your students before? ✨

Level up your classroom creativity for Video Game Day 🎮🎨

Bringing students’ interests into art lessons can be a fun way to encourage participation, imagination and creative confidence and this easy video game-inspired craft is a great place to start.

With a familiar theme and an approachable making process, students can focus on personalising their creation, experimenting with the materials and bringing a little of their own gaming world into their artwork 👾✨

It’s simple, engaging and a fun reminder that inspiration for classroom art can come from the things students already know and love.

Send this to a teacher whose class would love this one! 🙌
