Hello!👋🏽

I thought it was time to reintroduce myself!

My name is Britt and I am the founder, creator and face behind Unlax Candles!

Unlax Candes was born during my journey of grief after burning candle after candle next to the last photo I had taken with my Pop before he passed away. The warmth and light of the candle burning bought me so much comfort. I wanted to bring this same comfort to others during their journey of grief and so Unlax Candles was born. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to normalise talking about the often unspoken topic of grief.

Unlax Candles was named in loving memory of my Pop who always told anxious me to ‘Unlax’ which means to unwind and relax. The business has become my passion project which not only helps me to navigate my journey of grief and keeps my Pops legacy alive but allows me to help bring comfort to others on their own journey of grief while also becoming my way of spreading my Pops important message of self care by reminding others to take time out for themselves to Unlax!

My candles and products are hand poured, labelled and packaged with love in small batches from our home in Breeza, New South Wales. I use ethically and sustainably sourced 100% soy wax along with cotton wicks and premium handcrafted fragrance oils which are made here in Australia. By choosing to use a natural wax derived from soy beans, my candles have a cleaner burn, last longer, smell stronger and do not contain any hidden nasties or toxins, making them not only great for us but for the environment too!

Away from the candle studio, you’ll find me working full time as a University Lecturer after completing studies in Nursing and Psychology and completing my Doctor of Philosophy where I am researching mental health and wellbeing in Northwest NSW with an interdisciplinary approach in psychology, nursing and social work. Helping others is what truly sets my heart on fire, especially when it involves helping others chase their own goals and dreams!

Thank you for being a part of my Unlax Candles Family by being here, your ongoing support means the absolute world to me!

🤍 Britt

Today marks six years since Pops passing and so I find myself reflecting on the cherished memories and the valuable lessons he taught me🤍

Pop was a pillar of strength, wisdom and kindness, he never said a bad word about anyone or anything and despite being an incomplete quadriplegic he never complained. He made challenging times better and was the rock of our family. Pop is deeply missed and not a day goes by without thinking of the special memories we shared together🕊️

Pop, your presence is missed in every way,
Your love, your tight squeezes, and our cherished chats. While you’re no longer with us, you’re forever in our hearts and our guiding light. Your spirit and legacy lives on and you’re forever in our thoughts 🫶🏽

Today, I choose to celebrate the life and legacy of my Pop. I have my Unlax Memorial Candle burning brightly in his memory and while the pain of his absence will never fully fade, I find comfort in knowing that his love continues to guide and inspire me every step of the way🤍

Today, and always, I am forever grateful for the blessing of having had such a wonderful Pop in my life. I would do anything for one more tight squeeze and one more conversation. I look forward to the day we meet again Pop, I miss you💫

Always and forever near. As we always used to say to each other, I love you to the moon and back (infinity times)🌙

Love always,
Britt

When we’re stuck in the thick of grief, we often forget to take care of ourselves as we navigate our emotions.💔

Here are three things I want you to remember when navigating the difficult journey we call grief:

ALLOW YOURSELF TIME TO GRIEVE
It is important to acknowledge and accept the way that you feel. Give yourself permission to take the time and space that you need to grieve without any guilt, fear or judgement. Embracing your feelings and emotions will help you on your journey of healing ❤️‍🩹

BE KIND TO YOURSELF
Show yourself compassion and understanding and be kind to yourself, it’s okay if your routine looks a little different or if you’re taking some time out for yourself. Fill your days with things that you enjoy and that bring you comfort. Journaling, meditating, deep breathing or going for a walk aare a few to consider. For me, I enjoyed sitting quietly with a cuppa and watching the flame of my candles burn and light up the last photo I had with Pop. It always brings me so much comfort and makes him feel so much closer.🕊️

SEEK SUPPORT
Lean on others during this difficult time. Grief is a difficult journey, it’s important to remember that it’s okay to ask for support when you need it. Whether it be from a friend, family or a professional talking about your feelings and special memories of your loved one can provide you with a whole lot of comfort and support.✨

Taking time out for yourself to Unlax and practising self-care is not selfish. It’s an important act of kindness to yourself as you navigate the journey of grief. So make sure that you prioritise yourself and allow yourself the time and space that you need to heal. Your emotional wellbeing will thank you for it! 🥰

Grief is a challenging journey, so please be gentle with yourself 🤍

Before I go, here’s a little reminder to light your Unlax Candle and take a moment out of your day to Unlax 🫶🏽

Britt

Are you wondering how you can help a loved one who is experiencing grief? 🕊️

Supporting someone you love through grief can be challenging but it is incredibly important - we are human and we all need somebody to lean on ❤️‍🩹

The best thing that you can do for your loved one is to simply be there to listen! Allow them to express their feelings, emotions, thoughts and special memories without the fear of judgement. Having someone listen, understand and offer support will be comforting for your loved one and remind them that they are not alone!👂

Another thing that you can do to show your support is helping with daily tasks and helping prepare meals especially in the early stages of the grief process! These small gestures of kindness show your loved one that you care and are there to provide your support. 💫

Check in with your loved one regularly. Send them a thoughtful message to let them know that you’re thinking of them. It’s also important to regularly check in to see how they are travelling, grief doesn’t end after a couple of days, weeks or months - it stays with us forever! This can help your loved one to feel supported as they navigate this difficult space.🕊️

Be patient with your loved one and remember that we all grieve differently. Remind your loved one that you are there for them every step of the way so they know they can call on you when they need you.🫶🏽

Honour the anniversaries. Recognising and acknowledging anniversaries mean the world to someone going through grief. A simple message to let your loved one know that you’re thinking of them on a difficult day provides a whole lot of comfort on what is a challenging day 🥰

Being supportive and present through your loved ones journey of grief can make a significant difference! I hope this has helped you feel more confident in supporting a loved one through grief! ❤️‍🩹

All my love,
Britt
