How much do we value the role of the humble houseplant and its significance in Interior Design? 🌿

What began as a simple post about how much plant interiors have evolved over the past 100 years led me to a deeper and more detailed understanding and appreciation of the history of plants and Interior Design.

I believe our purpose to collect and care for plants has never strayed from our innate connection to nature. But our ability to be connected has been interfered with through our overconsumption, digital technology, citified and towns and more.

Incorporating plants into our living spaces need not be daunting. Start with one plant and start small until you feel comfortable and capable to add more.

An indoor-outdoor connection with make you feel part of the living environment and the power of plants will improve your wellbeing. 🌿

A brief check in. 🌳

If you are like me, and have had an absolute gut full of inhumanity and, you understand how important it is to not look away, then it’s also important to be aware that our activism and resilience has to come from a place of sustained energy.

I admit that I can doom scroll too much most times. However, in saying that I have developed an insatiable appetite to stay informed, continuously learn and educate myself about humanitarian issues, cultures including their architecture and interiors, historical wars and conflicts, and particularly surrounding the Middle East or the politically correct term, South West Asia. All of which I was uneducated, ignorant and oblivious to before which only feeds the capitalist elite system and propaganda.

I can say with certainty that I have never felt more aligned with my values and beliefs because our humanity is not monolithic. Our humanity is multi dimensional, interconnected, beautiful, diverse, intelligent, ancient and spiritual. It’s our obligation to protect, support and stand with all of humanity.

Finding focus, calm and balance in this maniacal world on top of daily life is challenging which will look different for everyone. I came across this beautiful book called “No Ordinary Days” which features small exercises for mindfulness, stress, relief, gratitude and forgiveness.

However you choose to rest and recharge do it with intention and love.

The words you speak, become the house you live in.

I’ve come across this quote before but it never had the impact on me like it does now because Ive never been more aware of the global humanitarian crisis and geopolitical situations. I feel like I’m living in parallel worlds.

How did we get here?

The words we use daily act as a blueprint shaping the “emotional home” whether it’s our internal dialogue, i.e self-talk, or external communication.

What we say or don’t say, and how we say it.

It shapes our thoughts, perception, mentality, biases our identity and who we connect with. Which shapes our experiences, lifestyle, relationships, political beliefs and ultimately, our reality.

They say actions speak louder than words. I agree.

So what if we started being more mindful about the words we speak and observe the words as they come out of your mouth.
Because words are powerful that we can never take back.

What made you say the words?
How did you feel saying them?
How did you make the people around you feel?

Hello 2026 : the year of the fire horse! 🐎

Hello to you who have made it here, to this moment, reading this post. I thank you for pausing and noticing. Are you feeling refreshed and energised from a break, or still feeling a bit tattered and overwhelmed from 2025, the year of the snake? It was also a Universal year 9 in numerology signifying a time for ending, spiritual growth and letting go. 💫 I personally would like to say good riddance to 2025. Some of us shed more than our thick skins and egos. We shed tears for the loss of humanity, environmental and animal injustices and shed those rose coloured glasses we have ignorantly been wearing for too long.

I hope you are well and ready to make waves, forge ahead, push on in 2026. This quiet unassuming page started in 2019, not far into my ID Diploma. It’s been a slow, challenging journey with ups and downs and ebbs and flows. But also one that has nurtured, enlightened, taught, inspired, and motivated me in ways I would never have considered. I did, however contemplate whether or not to continue my BA of ID for reasons I have been transparent about regarding my eyesight. After much consideration I have decided to continue. In fact, I feel like I have just touched the surface of more meaningful work to come that aligns with my design ethos. 🌱

This brings me to my conclusion about my 2026 mood board and the year of the fire horse combined with the number 1 in numerology! Be ready for new beginnings, heightened energy and activity, transformation and conscious choices! Focus creating spaces into purposeful design, multi purpose spaces which are grounding to inspire, for personal growth and healing. Think biophilic spaces supporting calmness and clarity for healthy energy and environments. Ethical choices are a sustainable solution for long term gain.

Embrace the imperfections and celebrate them. Creating soulful spaces is more than what is bought or achieved . It’s cultivating your values, your sanity, your creativity, your passions, your lifestyle, and your people. It’s your sanctuary and you are so worth it. 💚
