Ochre & Silk Artist Spotlight: Charlie Moon, CHARLIE MOON
Charlie Moon is a Dutch interdisciplinary artist whose work brings traditional craft into conversation with digital illustration, textiles, painting, 3D printing and artificial intelligence. Guided by a deep fascination with flora and fauna, she creates imagined worlds in which plants, insects, animals and pattern meet in unexpected forms.
What we love most about Charlie’s work is its extraordinary colour and detail. Flowers and insects already possess a beauty of their own. Intricate, balanced and, at times, almost impossibly perfect. Charlie doesn’t overwrite that beauty. She builds upon it.
In her hands, wings become gardens, petals take on the symmetry of creatures, and leaves become canvases for pattern and narrative. The results are fantastical, yet never cartoonish or disconnected from the natural world. Instead, they feel like forms that might somehow exist: familiar, heightened and quietly otherworldly.
We return to nature endlessly for inspiration. From its shapes and textures to its often-unexpected colour combinations. Charlie’s work honours what is already there while imagining what else it might become. It adds to the natural form without diminishing it, creating something that feels at once natural and super-natural. An imagined evolution, rendered with remarkable sensitivity.
