Tomorrow (Sunday!) is the last day of our Melbourne Design Week exhibition- A show of collaborative work between myself and my mastercraftsman father, Alex Veleff, entitled ‘Domestic Revery.’

My dad has been designing and making timber furniture for all of my life, and much of the furniture in my childhood home was made by him, which in turn has had a huge impact on my own making life and understanding and use of materials. The show explores the impact of living with and using personally handmade objects and furniture in our domestic spaces and how this can affect our connection to materials. The show will provide a reflection on the evolving furniture/functional object context in terms of intergenerational experience of making furniture and functional objects in Melbourne across time, with a focus on environmental impact and the use of reclaimed and waste materials in both timber and ceramic furniture.

Come and see ’s superb and masterful timber work at the for 11-6 ✨

continues this week at the ✨ I love being here in this magical place- one of the few places in the heart of the city that feels like it did when I was a kid- in primary school me and my mates used to visit the next door and do odd jobs around to score a free ride on the horses- so special that a place like this not only exists, but gets better and better. Melbourne Design Week here amongst the many artist studios, galleries, workshops, education centres, and beautiful bars and restaurants, is just so good. Be sure to visit this week, here until Sunday 24th, open from 11-6 daily.

Thrilled to be presenting an exhibition for Melbourne Design Week with my dad, ‘Domestic Revery: The Beauty of Useful Things.’

The exhibition explores the impact of living with and using handmade objects and furniture in domestic spaces and how this can affect a person’s connection to materials. It also reflects on the evolving context of furniture and functional objects through the intergenerational experience of making in Melbourne/Naarm, with a focus on environmental impact and the use of reclaimed and waste materials in timber and ceramic furniture.

To be shown at the magical Abbotsford Convent
11-6 daily, opening on Saturday 16 May, 6-9
Salon A.
