Western Australia, you were magic ✨
From spotting our first emu on the way to Jurien Bay, enjoying the crystal clear water and sunsets over the Indian Ocean; to diving into the turquoise bay at Cervantes, seeing stromatolites at Lake Thetis and enjoying fresh lobster at The Lobster Shack. Driving through The Pinnacles Desert at sunset with dinner under the stars, made for one very excited 5yr old spotting the moons of Jupiter and rings of Saturn through the Saxon telescope. Then heading up north to Shark Bay.. I’ll never forget catching first glimpse of that water over the horizon.. wow.. stopping at Shell Beach to see more shells than the eye can see, and then excitedly heading up to Monkey Mia. Having an emu greet our car as we arrived, then jumping into the bay to have a turtle swim right past us. Waking in the morning to watch the dolphins, and then heading to the lookout to spot sharks and manta rays. Kayaking with turtles and sea snakes, having emu’s join us for breakfast.. I don’t think we ever got sick of seeing the emus. Driving to Francois Peron National Park and seeing that red red dirt against the turquoise water, visiting the Peron Homestead and dipping into the artesian waters. Little Lagoon.. The town Denham had the prettiest playground backdrop I’ve seen! I think we could have all stayed another few weeks in Shark Bay, it was so hard to leave. Driving to Geraldton and stopping at Hutt Lagoon to see the pink salt lake; driving past forests of grass trees and the whitest sand dunes; exploring lovely Fremantle and a little bit of thrill-seeking at Adventure World Perth After Dark. And then the highlight; staying on Rottnest Island at the Discovery Eco tents. What an experience! Quokkas everywhere! Snorkeling with big fish and bike-riding the island (oh my thighs!) cruising to dinners as the sun set. Not to mention seafood, seafood, seafood! What a finale to an incredible holiday. The colour of the water, the most unique and beautiful flora, the wildlife and sea-life, and the beautiful food; made for an epic journey.
The kids have decided we most definitely will be back, and I think I have to agree 🩵🧡
