Robyn Fernandez from Regional Arts Services Network - RASN QLD came down to Emu Apple Arts for a look around and a chat yesterday, and she let me get excited about everything I had to show her.

Here's something people might not expect an artist to say: a lot of the time, I'm not hoping you'll buy something. I'm hoping you'll walk in, look around and go, "Oh wow, you're doing that?"

Robyn did exactly that. As a visual artist herself, she saw the story behind the story. She understood what I'm trying to say with these pieces, and she seemed to see a direction in my work, even on the days I'm not sure I can see it myself. It was reassuring to hear that I'm not just muddling around in the dark.

It was also wonderful to talk art with someone from outside our community and lean on her expertise for a while.

Thank you, Robyn, for giving me your time and your ears. I really appreciate it.

Just a couple of spots left for Term 4 after school Art Studio, starting THIS WEEK on both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, 3:30 to 5pm!

This term we're going big on painting and some genuinely fun, "how did you do that" projects. Think optical illusion art that looks like it's popping right off the page, a perspective trick using our own Queensland powerlines, hidden paintings revealed with turmeric and a bit of kitchen chemistry, and a Ken Done inspired piece using one of our own Charters Towers buildings. Real skills, real techniques, and children walking out with something they're genuinely proud of each week.

New families are welcome to try it out with a three-week trial before committing to the rest of the term, so there's no pressure to decide straight away. If your child has been wanting to give art a go, or you know a family who has, now's the time, spots are almost gone. Send us a message to grab one before they're filled.

Last night's Paint and Sip had a bit of a theme. 🤠

A hens' night group came in for a private paint and sip with a difference, a cheeky cowboy, hat on, jeans on, shirt very much optional. Lots of laughs, a few wines, and twelve very different takes on the same guy by the end of the night.

Hope you all have a wonderful day today 💍

If this cowboy had a theme song, what would it be? Drop your pick in the comments.

If you're after something a little different for your next hens' night, birthday or girls' night out, we can tailor a paint and sip to suit. Get in touch to book your group in.

😂🏡 BUY THE HOUSE OR BUY THE ARTWORK?🎨

Back in February, I painted this little Deane Street miner’s cottage in watercolour and ink. I loved its character, so naturally, I had to stop and paint it.

Then yesterday, driving home, I spotted a FOR SALE sign.

Well… obviously I had to swing around for another look! 😂

I got home, checked realestate.com.au and discovered that 18 Deane Street is now on the market with Gold City Realty It’s a charming two-bedroom cottage on 516m², right here in Charters Towers.

So you have options.

🎨 Buy my painting: $275
🏡 Want the real thing?Well, you’ll need to talk to Gold City Realty! 😂

I’ll happily settle for knowing I painted it before the “For Sale” sign went up.

And if you buy the house, you could always buy the painting too… then you’ll have the house and the story of it hanging on your wall. 😉

What would you choose?
The painting or the cottage?

Term done. ✨

Today was the last primary art class for this term, and the theme was simple: something you love. Over nine weeks the children have had a real range on offer, sculpting, mixed materials, all sorts of techniques, and for this final class, they could choose anything in the room to work with.

What struck me was that with all that on offer, each child still went straight to what they loved (I know it was the theme after all). Some picked up graphite and sat quietly sketching. Others grabbed felt pens and just went for it. A few pulled out acrylic paints and canvas and got stuck into some little master pieces.

It's a good reminder for me teaching them too. Every child creates differently, and my job is to keep making room for that, whatever it looks like for them.

With some children moving on to sport and other activities next term, we have a few vacancies opening up in our primary classes. If your child's been wanting to give art a go, now's a good time to get in touch and register your interest for Term 4.

Can't wait for next term.
