To better frame the kitchen’s view over the rear garden, we’ve designed the servery windows wider and higher, creating a stronger connection to the outdoors.

There’s something incredibly special about renovating a home together… and even more meaningful when parts of it are handcrafted by the people living in it.

A little glimpse behind the scenes of our own renovation — the joinery stage, where the kitchen servery windows are currently stacked and waiting for paint and installation.

These have been handcrafted by my husband, and I already know they’re going to become one of my favourite features in the home.

There’s something rewarding about seeing thoughtful design and craftsmanship come together from the very beginning. Every detail has been considered to complement the character of our home and the way we live in it.

Living through a renovation isn’t always neat, but it’s full of layers, decisions, and moments that slowly shape the end result.

How do you truly visualise your space coming together?

It begins with a line… a sketch… an idea taking shape.

From there, I refine and resolve each element, translating concepts into highly detailed, to-scale 3D models. Whether I’m working from existing plans or measuring on site, each space is carefully constructed so you can experience it long before it’s built.

With an in-depth understanding of materials and how they are crafted, detailed, and installed, I thoughtfully layer finishes, textures, and forms - ensuring every element feels considered and cohesive.

This process allows you to see how everything comes together, not just aesthetically, but in the way it lives and functions day to day.

I’ve been reflecting on moments from my recent holiday in South America and was drawn back to these character-filled homes in Valparaiso - renowned for their bold colour and expressive street art.

While many of these homes embrace vibrant, high-impact palettes, what I find most inspiring is the confidence behind them - the willingness to create something personal and full of life.

In my own work, I often look at how that same feeling can be interpreted in a more refined and understated way - through curated artworks, a considered pop of colour at an entry, or softly layered, diluted tones across walls and finishes.

It’s less about replicating the intensity, and more about capturing the essence.

From concept to construction, every detail matters.

We’re currently in the process of making internal French doors and transom windows for our home.

My husband is crafting them - his joinery skills are incredible, even though he spends his days in the corporate world.

Our home has been a work in progress, slowly coming together one step at a time… and this is where I come in.

I design the spaces - reworking floor plans, creating elevations, and developing detailed 3D renders so every idea is thoughtfully resolved before it’s built, down to every measurement.

If you’re planning a renovation or new build, it’s so valuable to engage a designer early - bringing clarity, direction, and confidence before you begin.
