Saturday Spotlight: Cart & Co Hinterland
A beloved Cooran retail space has entered a new chapter, with Cart & Co Hinterland reopening under new ownership and bringing a fresh country-inspired feel to the heart of the village.
Owner Kim Abbott took over the business in May, from cafe neighbours Fin and Jules at 'The Cart'. After a store refit and relaunch, the business is embracing a style that reflects the character and history of the hinterland town. “We went for a country vibe in store with popular Australian brands like Pony Rider, Country Road and homegrown local goods and art,” Kim said. “We are also offering live music every Sunday from 10-12pm. Visitors and the Cooran community have really embraced the new look store.”
Located alongside popular coffee destination The Cart, the store has quickly become a gathering place for locals and anyone looking for unique gifts, homewares and locally made products. “An earthy, country vibe to suit historical Cooran with beautiful homewares and gifts,” Kim said.
The carefully curated range with products from Australian brand Pony Rider known for its waxed and upcycled truck canvas bags, bean bags and outdoor cushions. Customers will also find Country Road linen, French linen tea towels, local artwork by Lew Brennan and handmade jewellery from Pomona maker Ebb & Clay.
Kim believes the strong sense of community is what sets the business apart. “I think people love the friendly community connections made at Cart & Co Hinterland and neighbouring coffee shop The Cart for providing a great atmosphere and coffee,” she said.
The store's focus on supporting local makers and offering products not commonly found elsewhere has helped establish its identity in the region. “Cart & Co Hinterland is unique to the Noosa hinterland and the only country store of its kind, proudly owned by locals and supporting local goods,” Kim added.
With its welcoming atmosphere and carefully selected range, the relaunched store is adding another reason to stop, browse and linger in Cooran.
Cart & Co Hinterland is open Thursday to Sunday from 8:30am to 1pm and can be found at 2/2 King Street, Cooran. Come along for free music performances from existing and emerging artists every Sunday, 10am - 12pm.
