This ship. This little ship, as if the Norns themselves weaved it, really changed the trajectory of the year.
"Salt & Soil" - When Ragnar went to take Paris (yes it happened, possibly sprinkled with some good storytelling additives), he discovered they had created blockades in The Seine to stop his advances. Never someone to let an inconvenience stop him, in the dead of night, they pushed their boats on to the bank... And lifted them. They carried them, rolled them, pushed them and dragged them thousands of feet to slip back into the water after the blockade.
For me, I love big waves. I love the wild ocean and all her fury. If it's choppy and wild, good. But I think about this. I'm on my pops old boat that is made of steel and has survived all that Albany can throw at it. I'm on 1800ccs of Yamaha's finest. Yet there are moments, some in this very bay in the background of these photos, I think oh hell. I've made a mistake. It's solid.
Yet these people. They sailed the North Sea. In wooden boats. Then carried them over land. All for the unknown.
When it's cold, I'm sore, I'm tired and I don't want to drag my butt 50 meters out to create, make that video, exercise, get to the ocean or whatever it is I should be doing, I look over at one of my little boats and ponder what they achieved with porous steel and sticks, and drag myself out. It always ends in a better adventure.
