I’ve spent most of my life being underestimated.
Too emotional. Too much. Too ambitious. Too loud. Too talkative. Too ADHD. Not organised enough. Not focused enough. Not likely to succeed. And I actually often wondered if I could.
But the funny thing is, being underestimated became one of my greatest strengths. Every time someone doubted me, dismissed me, questioned me, or assumed I couldn’t do something, it lit a fire in me. You tell me no. I’ll move heaven and earth to show you yes I can.
I found a career I fell in love with. One I was good at. One I never dreaded going to work. I thrive on the adrenaline of weddings. The creativity. Every week being different. A new vision to create. Flowers to design with. I built businesses. Created weddings I’d only ever dreamed of. Educated florists around Australia. Showed other women they could do it too. And I did it with a brain wired different. An ADHD one.
A brain that loses its phone while talking on it. A brain that starts ten projects at once. A brain that forgets why it walked into a room. A brain that can feel overwhelming at times.
But that same brain is also creative, intuitive, resilient, curious and full of ideas. It’s the reason I see possibilities where others see problems. It’s the reason I can dream big and bring those ideas to life.
So here’s to every woman who’s ever been underestimated. Every woman who’s been told she’s too much. Every woman who’s had to work twice as hard to be taken seriously.
Keep breaking glass ceilings. Keep taking up space. Be loud. Be authentic. Be you. Keep proving that success doesn’t have to look the way other people think it should.
And if you happen to be doing it while wondering where you left your keys, your coffee, or your phone, you’re in good company 😂
