Why do wedding flowers cost what they do?
I wish there was an easy answer to this question (and NO, it’s not a ‘wedding tax’).
To put it in simple terms, you aren’t just buying flower stems - if you were it would be easier to just raid your family’s gardens right?
What you are actually paying for is:
* hours of research, design, quoting, admin/emails/phone calls … and that’s before we’ve even touched a single flower!
* then there’s ordering, liaising with growers & wholesalers, and flexing when nature (or transport/war/disease) doesn’t cooperate and we have to urgently find substitutes for flowers we can’t get
* then there’s flower pick-ups, unboxing, checking off orders, stripping, prepping, conditioning, refrigeration, prepping vases, styling items & sundries
* and then we get to the good bit - the actual ‘playing with flowers’!
* but wait there’s more! We deliver, coach, prep on-site, style tables, re-locate flowers from one location to another … and there’s LOTS of lugging buckets, boxes, ladders and structures back & forth … all so you can relax and actually enjoy your special day
* and then … we return to bump-out, clean vases & buckets, dispose of waste (and sometimes arrange donation of unwanted flowers)
* plus all the unseen boring bits like staffing, arranging insurance, car servicing, marketing (insta is fun until you call it ‘marketing!’), updating websites, business planning, ordering/re-stocking … argh i could go on …
And there’s no do-over when it comes to a wedding - everything has to be 1000% perfect on the day because as a professional vendor, we never want to disappoint a client on the biggest day of their life
So when you attend a wedding, or better yet, when you plan your own, please think about all the love, passion, dedication and HOURS of work that goes into delivering the perfect wedding day floral display (and maybe try to understand the value of the investment and not just the cost!)
