COLOURS OF SRI LANKA
For those who have been following my travels over the last few years, you will know that I take great pleasure in exploring and appreciating the local architecture and design of the places I visit.
Sri lanka was I must say largely underwhelming.
There was no prettiness. No texture. No use of marble or stone.. it was simple. Not that simple is bad it was just my observation.
I was largely disappointed in their tiles and tiling. Having spent many years in that industry and knowing they have 2 global tile manufacturers there, their tiles and tiling even in resorts was very ordinary. As we see with our RR bathrooms in particular here, a tile and its layout can make or break a space. So that was a let down for me.
The two elements that did stand out were their timber windows many with stained glass and their use of colour. There was colour in most places .. just a simple use of paint. But take away the colour and their would be little to smile about.
Colour extended to their finishing boats. The most colourful you'll ever see. Glancing towards a marina and you'd be mistaken for thinking it was a tourist attraction like Luna Park. π€£
Sri Lanka may have disappointed on the design front but there was much beauty within the country and its people to make this another special and memorable trip.
