Introducing a truly unique collection: our latest trio of Coloured Claret Ash Bowls! ✨ Each piece, meticulously crafted from beautiful Claret Ash, stands as a testament to patience and artistic exploration.

This set features three distinct, rich hues: a vibrant blue 💙, a deep racing green 💚, and an elegant purple 💜. These aren't just bowls; they're a convergence of natural wood grain and vivid color, designed to capture attention and add a sophisticated touch to any space.

Creating these bowls was a journey of "something different" over several days. The intricate ink process, followed by the careful application and extensive drying time of the final finish, truly tested our patience and dedication to perfection. We believe the results speak for themselves, revealing a stunning depth of color that complements the natural beauty of the wood.

We're incredibly proud of how these pieces turned out and are excited to share them with you. Which color is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below! 👇

Day 78, 79, and 80 of my 365-day creative journey! 🗓️ I'm thrilled to unveil this exquisite trio of Ash bowls, all meticulously turned from a single, magnificent piece of trunk.

Ash truly is my favorite wood to work with, particularly when it comes to achieving that perfect finish. Its beautiful open grain and inherent strength allow for an incredible depth and luster, making each piece feel wonderfully smooth and look absolutely radiant. There's something uniquely satisfying about bringing out the natural character of this timber.

What makes these bowls truly special, however, is the captivating spalting visible in their corners. These aren't just plain Ash; the intricate lines and patterns caused by this natural fungal process infuse each bowl with a distinct artistic flair and organic beauty. It's these unique imperfections that transform them into truly one-of-a-kind works of art.

Crafting these from the same trunk allowed me to showcase the wood's continuity and variations in a cohesive collection. Each bowl tells a part of the original tree's story, now beautifully preserved and functional.

I'd love to hear your thoughts! Which of these three speaks to you the most? Let me know in the comments below. 👇

Paper Bark: Ever wondered how a handcrafted wooden bowl begins its journey? 🪵 It all starts with selecting the perfect raw timber block, like this one. We often get asked about the specific woods we use; each piece is chosen for its unique grain, character, and suitability for turning. This solid block is now ready to be transformed on the lathe into a beautiful, functional art piece. 🛠️🥣

American Oak

🌳 Another American Oak that was destined for the fireplace (a small bark inclusion I wasn't happy with), finds a new purpose! My good friend Ian suggested, "we will use it for an Incense stick holder, add some beach sand, and Bingo, it's now saved."

I love how a collaborative idea can transform something discarded into a beautiful and functional piece. It's incredibly satisfying to give timber a second life, especially when it results in something so serene.

Cypress

Elevate your space with our latest bespoke creation. 🪵✨ This substantial side table, meticulously crafted from a solid Cypress trunk, embodies natural strength and timeless design. Its robust, 'thicker' silhouette makes it a distinctive focal point, even when artfully placed in a quiet corner. While perfectly suited for your favourite coffee cup, it currently offers an ideal platform for an incense display, infusing tranquillity and style into your room. Solid, heavy, and undeniably captivating.

Spotted Gum

Unveiling the unique beauty of Spotted Gum! 🌳 This stunning piece showcases a darker segment, harvested from a branch further out in the canopy. It's truly fascinating to observe how the sapwood here presents a richer, more profound tone, a departure from what we often see closer to the trunk.

This serves as a beautiful testament to the incredible variability within a single tree, reminding us of the diverse characteristics each section can offer for crafting. ✨ Every grain tells a story, and this Spotted Gum bowl beautifully illustrates the dynamic nature of timber. The second photo I have tilted to show the inner grains of the bowl.

What unique wood characteristics have you discovered in your projects lately? 🤔

American Oak

The medullary rays on this American Oak bowl are undeniably stunning – a true testament to the beauty of natural wood grain. ✨ However, I'm genuinely unhappy with the overall finish, primarily due to a small branch inclusion that required an epoxy fill. While sometimes necessary, this particular result just doesn't meet my exacting standards for quality and aesthetics.

It's a tough call, but this piece might sadly be destined for the burn pile. My commitment to craftsmanship means that if it's not perfect, it's not truly finished.

What are your thoughts on salvaging pieces with minor imperfections? Or is it a 'start over' mentality for you too?

Yellow Birch

Presenting a beautifully crafted bowl, expertly turned from exquisite Yellow Birch. 🌳

This piece showcases the distinctive grain of Yellow Birch, enhanced by a subtly burnt outer rim that adds unique character and depth. It truly is a wonderful wood to work with; despite being a hardwood, it consistently cuts like butter on the lathe, allowing for incredibly smooth and precise finishes.

We're passionate about bringing out the natural beauty and warmth of the wood in every creation. We hope you appreciate the refined simplicity and craftsmanship of this piece.

Flowering Gum

Presenting this exquisite, medium-sized bowl crafted from stunning Flowering Gum timber. The rich grain and smooth finish truly highlight the natural beauty of this wood.

It's always an absolute pleasure to work with Flowering Gum. The exceptional quality of the timber makes every stage, from turning to sanding, an incredibly rewarding experience. I'm always on the lookout for larger pieces to explore even grander designs! 🌳✨
