Kitchen splashback design mistakes to avoid ⬇️

1️⃣ Designing your benchtop at 600mm deep.

600mm is the standard benchtop depth. Add a stone splashback and the space for your cooktop can get tight. I design my benchtops at 630mm deep, so extra room to allow for a thicker splashback material.

2️⃣ Leaving power points until last.

Power points are a design + functionality decision. And they mean cut-outs in your splashback. Think about them early in your design. If you can put them on a side panel or side wall, that means fewer cuts in your splashback. It’s not always possible if you have cabinetry on the side, but important to plan ahead in your design.

3️⃣ Adding a splashback on the side wall when you don’t need to.

You need a splashback where there are splashes, heat and flame. Behind the cooktop, it has to handle heat, and there are regulations you need to follow. The side walls at each end of your bench are different. Unless it’s a really messy area, a quality washable paint or laminate will do the trick and keep your design clean and seamless.
