Stepping inside this modern-built Blue Mountains weather board, you are immediately met with a beautiful, spacious floorplan that capitalises on picturesque views of the adjoining golf course. Our Wentworth Falls client approached Thornton & Blake Interior Designer Fiona Harding with a brief of light, bright and feminine, with a heavy touch of glam for the family of girls and two very loved felines to enjoy. Drawing on a Gia Coppola print of Sunset Boulevarde for inspiration, the interior design centres around a Palm Springs palette of fresh, soft pastels with metallic notes. With the soft, feminine and elegant brief in mind, it was also important that the soft finishes chosen for the home were hardwearing, easy clean and forgiving of the high use these living spaces endure. Springtime means exterior painting.
• This north-facing Wentworth Falls weatherboard was ready for a transformation. Once painted a pale lime green, the client’s brief was to ground the home in its natural surroundings with a deeper, more welcoming colour palette—something that truly felt like coming ‘home.’

Thornton & Blake colour consultant, Ellisha, drew on more than 20 years of expertise to guide the process. The client arrived with some initial ideas, but it was equally important to honour the home’s heritage—believed to date back to the early 1900s. Ellisha explored colour distribution, sheen levels, and complementary tones that would highlight its character. Options included a warm primary base, a sharp contrasting colour, and a subtle pink accent to echo the original red glass in the front door.

To unlock deeper inspiration, Ellisha encouraged the client to reflect on personal memories. One stood out vividly: her Great Aunt’s bluestone brick home in Oatley, NSW. This nostalgic connection became the key to the final scheme.

Drawing from the blues and browns of bluestone, the new palette took shape:
•Dulux ‘Chocolate Soufflé’ on the weatherboards and fibre cement as the rich brown base
•Dulux ‘Oolong’ as a strong complementary navy
• Dulux ‘Buff’ for subtle highlights
•Dulux ‘Mocha Magic’ on the deck, tying in with the concrete path and entry
•
The result is a timeless colour scheme that feels both grounded and warmly inviting—an inspired reflection of heritage, memory, and place.

Our most bespoke kitchen design yet. What happens when Italian influence meets mid-century simplicity, country warmth and the realities of family life in the Blue Mountains? You get something entirely unique — a kitchen we came to call Mountains-Italian.
•
Designed for a young family of five, this Katoomba kitchen was created to complement the home’s original 1960s weatherboard architecture while delivering the durability, functionality and effortless everyday living a busy family needs.
•
Every element was considered and custom-designed, from the distinctive routed handles and warm buttery-yellow high-gloss cabinetry to the stainless-steel-wrapped island and sculptural rangehood. Even the cabinetry profiles and finishes were refined through full-size samples before production.
•
A dedicated breakfast nook, generous storage, pot-filler tap and carefully positioned island bring practicality to the design, while the mix of materials and unexpected details create a kitchen that feels personal, playful and completely bespoke.

Hanging your curtains high above the window frame gives a luxurious appearance, accentuating the height of the ceiling and allowing space for the window frames. Curtains that extend adequately beyond the window frame provide better thermal and draft protection and light control.

Choosing a curtain rod that extends either side of the window frame ensures plenty of natural light can spill into your room when the curtains are open.

So how do you get the most out of your wood fireplace?
•
A beautiful wood fire is about more than warmth and ambience — how you use and maintain it can make a real difference to its efficiency, safety and performance.
•
For a cleaner, hotter burn, start with well-seasoned, dry hardwood and plenty of dry kindling. Keep the firebox loosely stacked so the fire has room to breathe, and avoid burning rubbish, treated timber or anything painted or plastic.
•
Once your fire is going, keep the flame bright and lively rather than letting it smoulder. A smoky or sluggish fire can mean incomplete combustion and less efficient heating.
•Importantly, don’t forget the chimney. Regular cleaning and maintenance helps reduce the risk of chimney fires while keeping your fireplace performing at its best.

Textured grass cloth wall covering for this beautiful, luxe bedroom creates a feature wall that also works to anchor the bed. For this project, our client had a unique idea to hang the paper sideways… whilst our wall paperer scratched his head wondering how he could execute the idea, our Director of Design and Decoration Anne could see the brilliance of his suggestion, for the use of the textured lines in a vertical manner creates the illusion of a taller ceiling.
