I've got spaces in the evening session of 'Boro: Origins to Now'. Next Thursday 30th April 6.30 - 8.30 pm $15. Text me on 0419 589 263 to book. Here's the blurb:

People are often surprised to learn that it is only in the last 25 or so years that heavily patched and mended cotton textiles from Japan have been labelled as ‘boro’. We’ll be looking close up at antique pieces from my collection both for inspiration for your own work as well as a starting point for a discussion about the history of boro – including the cultural reframing of this mending tradition in recent years. Please note that we won’t be doing any stitching but you’ll be welcome to take lots of photos.

My Autumn Sale is on now! Some of the rolls of silk on the back wall have been there over a decade - so I've got over half of them on sale for $35 for the remainder of the roll - or 4 for $90 I’ve also got $10 kimonos - they’re not the best I’ve ever had in the shop, but definitely the cheapest! The remnant baskets are also discounted. And there are rolls of mixed chiyogami paper at half price. I’m phasing out paper in favour of more textile space. The sale is on this week only, including Sunday when I’ll be open from 10am - 3pm while the market’s on next door. Hope you can drop in!

This month is the 25th Anniversary of Wafu Works! I'll be celebrating this Sunday 29th March 10am - 2pm. Please pop in and say hello and have a glass of bubbly - or a cup or tea. There'll be things to look at including a display of photos sent in by customers of items they've bought or made - which I'll make into an album afterwards. There's room for more if you've got any!

I feel so grateful to have been able to do something that I love and meet so many wonderful people for over a quarter of a century! Thank you!!!

Happy New Year!! I'm open again and busy getting ready for my FUKUBUKURO LUCKY BAG SALE which will be in store and online from next Wednesday 7th January to Sunday 11th January. Usual shop hours ( 10am -4.30pm Wed - Sat) plus 10am - 3pm Sunday when the market is on next door. I'll be adding bags every day so it doesn't matter when you come in. The online sale will be available from 9am on Wednesday to 3pm Sunday.
Fukubukuro are a Japanese retail New Year tradition that dates back to the 19th century in which stock remaining from the previous year is sold in sealed lucky dip bags at hugely discounted prices. I make up a mix of bags with clues to help you choose. Everything is discounted by at least 50%. Lots of bargains, some extra treats thrown in and lots of fun! I'll post a reminder next week.

I'm running a couple of informal study sessions called 'Sashiko: Origins to Now' in the shop Tues 18th Nov 1pm - 3pm or Thur 20th Nov 6.30 - 8.30pm $15 If you're interested please text your name and the session date to me on 0419 589 263. Here's part of the blurb from my newsletter:

We’ll take a close up look at items from my collection (as well as photos of things I wish were in my collection!) to learn more about the history of sashiko and how it’s changed over time. From the rich regional and individual variations of early sashiko to the exciting endless possibilities of contemporary sashiko. This will include the Edo period, kogin stitching, sashiko patterns in sewing books from the late 19th - early 20th century, the start of sashiko as a hobby and what’s happening with sashiko now. Please note that we won’t be doing any stitching but you’ll be welcome to take lots of photos and I hope you’ll find inspiration for your own creations.

I don't usually have Christmas fabric but I could couldn't resist this cute cat design in three colour options. They'd make lovely furoshikis for re-usable Christmas wrapping.
Plus some more photos of what's in the shop at the moment - if you can't get into the shop you can get in touch and I'll make you up a special order.
