💡 Sensor Lights vs. Automation Lighting – What’s the Difference?
Many people think sensor lights are smart lighting — but there’s a big difference between the two.
Sensor lights are reactive — they switch on when they detect motion or darkness, then switch off after a set time. They’re simple, reliable, and perfect for driveways, entries, side of the house or security zones.
Automation lighting, on the other hand, is intelligent and adaptable. It allows you to control brightness, timing, and colour scenes via touchscreens, voice, or phone apps — and it can respond to time of day, occupancy, the outside lighting level or even integrate with your AV (think home theatre), air conditioning, or security systems.
In short:➡️ Sensor lighting is automatic and reactive.➡️ Automation lighting is intelligent and proactive
Sensor lighting is what we call single point. One sensor affects one group of lights. Automated Lighting Control systems are more universal and trigger multiple actions and also be altered and changed post installation via programming.
If you’re building or renovating, it’s worth thinking about how smart lighting can make your space more comfortable, efficient, and secure.
