We're incredibly proud to be featured in this important article by Clare Press from Wardrobe Crisis.

At a time when small Australian makers and retailers are facing enormous challenges, it's refreshing to see a thoughtful conversation about the real value of shopping local, supporting small business, and choosing quality over quantity.

As a business that designs and makes right here in Tasmania, we see firsthand the impact that every purchase has. When you choose to shop small, you're supporting local jobs, keeping skills alive, and helping independent businesses continue to create products with purpose.

A huge thank you to Clare Press for being such a strong voice of reason in this space and for continuing to champion the conversations that matter. Your work helps shine a light on the challenges and opportunities facing the fashion industry today.

We'd love to hear your thoughts after reading the article.

The answer was under our noses the whole time

Don't 😢 😭 😿 lovely Quolllers but....tears will be flow!!
We are down to our very last 3m of Organic Wool in Nutmeg.
What that means is we can make 2 Island Pleat Coats or 1 bean bag or bean chair, with a handful of cushions left.

So it's first in first served...
Island Coat x 2
Cushions handful
Skirt × 2
Bean bag x 1
Bean chair x 1
Bean podx 1

As a small business i have had enough of people crap!!

So I am now calling out the abuse we suffer at the hands of people that think its ok to abuse us.
This goes for all the small cafes, stores, florists, hairdresser (and other service providers)

He is actually so disappointed that we made he cape from scratch! And if he had known we were making his custom cape he would have bought it else where!! Well okay then.

2 phone calls and several lovely email later I offer him a full refund which of course he refused.

Not sure whar else I can do James except to offer to drive it to Smithton myself today mate.
One day late BTW (Monday was a public holiday) no excuse he said! Well ok James maybe I should have made the team work over the long weekend 🤔
I will not lower myself to this kinda miserable so I hand wrote him a note thanking him for being such a lovely customer! 😆 😆 😆

This has hit a spot with most of us!
I’ve owned businesses long enough to know that most people only see the finished product.

They don’t see the sleepless nights, the risks, the weekends, the stress, the missed family events or the times you go without so your staff and suppliers can get paid.

Small business owners aren’t asking for sympathy. They chose this life.

But I think many Australians are becoming concerned about what we’re seeing.

Record numbers of businesses are closing.

Costs keep rising.

Consumers are hurting.

Margins are shrinking.

And the answer often seems to be more taxes, more regulation, more complexity and more pressure.

Maybe I’m confused, but at what point do we stop and ask whether we’re making the problem worse rather than better?

Because this isn’t just about business owners.

Small businesses employ millions of Australians.

They’re the cafés, restaurants, florists, gift shops, mechanics, tradies and family businesses that hold communities together.

If they continue disappearing at record rates, everyone eventually feels the consequences.

You don’t have to agree with every point I make.

But surely we can agree on one thing:

A country can’t tax, regulate and spend its way to prosperity.

Eventually, basic mathematics catches up with everyone.

Do we want things to continue to decline, or are we prepared to ask whether something needs to change?

I’d genuinely love to hear from other small business owners. How are you finding things right now?
