A client showed me a photo of her and her friends, flour everywhere, making pasta in her new kitchen.

They are the photos I love the most.

Professional photos are great. They’re how you see my work. But the real test of a kitchen is a weeknight, or a crowd on the weekend, or a bench covered in flour. Whether two people can cook without bumping elbows. Whether the mess has somewhere to go.

I’m not interested in kitchens that just photograph well. I want them to work as good as they look.

Coming home from Canberra with something special 🏆

Raeburn has won Kitchen Design at the 2026 BDAA National Design Excellence Awards!

Raeburn is our own family home in Breadalbane. It's the kitchen I designed for us and the one we live in every day.
The garden views, natural light, timber and generous island all started with thinking about how we wanted to live. A kitchen that works hard, feels welcoming and belongs to the rest of the home.

To see it recognised on a national stage means an enormous amount. I’m very proud of this one.

This one was made for entertaining.

The brief was a home that brings people together, with a warm mid-century feel that respected the existing features.

We redesigned the laundry, kitchen, dining and living areas to improve circulation, with bigger openings and maintained clear sightlines to the views of kanamaluka / River Tamar. The centrally placed kitchen island encourages gathering and conversation. The fridge and coffee nook nestles amongst the timber panelling and the butler's pantry, beautiful in it’s own right, is concealed behind cabinetry bifold doors. The european style, laundry can be found tucked behind mirror doors in the hall.

Moody cabinetry, warm walnut tones and brass carry through to a new feature wall and fireplace in the living room. Every finish is easy to clean and durable for every day life.

“When can you start?”

It’s usually one of the first questions I’m asked. And I get it. Once you’ve decided to build, you want to get going.

But most people are surprised by how much happens before a builder ever sets foot on site. Surveys. Soil tests. Bushfire and engineering reports. Design, then planning, then documentation and permits. Some of it runs side by side. Some of it can’t start until another report comes back.

Raeburn is a finalist in the 2026 BDAA National Design Awards!

Raeburn is both our family home and my design studio, so I’m not just the designer. I’m also the person who lives and works here.
For me, good design has always been about creating homes people love to live in. Having our own home recognised at a national level is something I’m very proud of.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Raeburn what it is.

A question I'd love every homeowner to ask before they start:
"What do I want my home to feel like?"

Not what style. Not what colour. Not what someone else has.
How do you want to feel when you walk in the door? What does a good morning look like in this house? Where do you go when you need quiet?

That's where good design starts. Everything else follows.

Studio update: it's been a huge financial year. July was my number one month for productivity and billable hours EVER!

I'm working across everything from new homes to renovations and extensions across Northern Tasmania. Some projects are at concept, others are in documentation and getting closer to site. It's satisfying work.

It's also a reminder: I'm booked well ahead. If you've got something in mind for 2027, now is when we start the conversation.

One of the things that shaped Raeburn was asking: how do we actually live?

The answer was mornings. Coffee on the patio while the boys get ready for school. That five-minutes before the day starts.

The kitchen opens directly onto a north-facing patio. No corridor, no steps, just a door and the morning sun.
Designing for how you live means starting with the bits that matter, not the floor plan.

What I'm drawn to right now ✨

Polytec's new Essence range: six earth-toned solid matt colours designed to pair with Boston Oak. If you're looking at joinery, these warm neutrals are a step up from the usual whites and greys. I'm particularly drawn to Wild Clay.
