I had the pleasure of creating this artwork of The Coxs River with the Wattle and Tea Tree coming into bloom for a lovely couple in Leura. Behind the scenes, I’m working on an incredible project to restore a section of our Farmers Creek here in Lithgow. Something tells me a Farmers Creek artwork might be next on my to do list ❤️

So proud of our community here in Lithgow. Proof when we all contribute, the smallest effort can have huge impacts. You may have noticed a new artwork behind Mayor Cass Coleman during the most recent meeting of Council.

This piece, titled Our Future on Canvas, was created by fifteen Year 11 students from Lithgow High, Portland Central School and La Salle Academy in a workshop delivered by local Wiradjuri artist Brett Groves and designed by the Lithgow Emerging Economy Plan team to support cross school collaboration, honour local culture and First Nations storytelling, and provide young people with a meaningful voice in shaping the region’s future.

The painting is a visual map of the students hopes and solutions for a brighter regional future. Each idea was represented symbolically through the ancient storytelling traditions of Wiradjuri culture, transforming student voice into colour, pattern and meaning.

Mayor Cass Coleman welcomed students from Lithgow High School and Brett Groves to the Council Chambers today to recognise their efforts.

The Mayor heard from the artists about the meaning of the artwork and discussed their vision for the future of the Lithgow LGA.

The artwork is just one way the Council is helping to build a shared vision of our communities’ future.
