Do this ONE thing, to make your home truly timeless.

Understand the Why of your home.

What this doesn't mean - This does not mean that we carbon copy the exterior, and create a "mock" home of that particular era.

This means that we understand the intent behind the home, the architecture, the age it was built in and some of the things that would have been happening at that time. We want to understand the reason of "why" behind the home's architecture, what was in the designer's mind and the reasons and intent behind some of the decisions.

We look into the soul of the home.

Once we understand the home, we can start to renovate, decorate, update, modernise…all the things we want to do, but with an understanding of the why. You will find, that your decisions, working with the intent of the architecture, weave together beautifully, to create something that feels timeless, linked with the home and peaceful...

Design is knowing when to add, and when to take away. On this joinery design, we wanted to keep the palette simple, calming (especially as it was heading into the Primary Bedroom) yet, interesting and individual.

We decided to intentionally incorporate timeless rattan into the doors, which

➡️softened the surface of the cabinetry
➡️kept the joinery in a monochromatic, quiet colour palette
➡️gave tangible texture that added just the right amount of interest

The result? Beautiful, balanced joinery that was practical, unique and tailored to the homeowners.

With design projects all encompassing, I feel it’s time for a little reintroduction -

I’m Anna, Melbourne Interior Designer, business owner and creator of timeless designs for beautiful homes.

I am:

➡️ qualified, with a Diploma in Interior Design, meaning I understand my craft, the origin of good design, the technical aspects behind good planning as well as how how our finished homes affect our mood, energy and how we approach life
➡️ a lover of spacial planning - good spacial planning, you will never be able to make the most of your home
➡️ a believer in investing in custom cabinetry - not only does it set your home apart from the ordinary, it solves storage issues, creates a sense of balance and utilises every corner
➡️ appreciative of the fact that all my previous life experience, raising a family, working in the banking sector in London and being a Personal Assistant to challenging entrepreneurs are what gave me the skills to do my craft even better now.

The most important phase in a design project (and one that is rushed through too often) is the Concept Design phase. But, truly, what is a concept design?

In my process, Concept Design, covers the stage from the Design Kick Off meeting (finding out the exact brief, requirements and getting to know the client), to measuring up the site, to creating the ideal floorplan and deciding what the “look and feel” of the space will be…

This phase is about creating the “map” for your project. Without the map, we simply don’t know where we are going…🤷‍♀️

This Concept Design, for a commercial showroom space, featured:

➡️Colour stories - showing the look and feel of different colour schemes
➡️Moodboards - showing the interplay of different shapes, textures and how they will affect the mood of the space
➡️Floorplan - the all important layout
➡️Concept Lighting Plan - how will we lay the lighting out, to create the desired effect.

Each of these parts of the presentation, contribute to answering the question of “What are we doing?”. Once that has been answered, we can tackle the questions of “How will we do this?”

If you aren’t sure “what” you are doing and are struggling to make individual decisions, chances are you haven’t spent enough time in the Concept Phase creating a map for your project. And, of course, if you need help with this, please reach out via DMs- I’d love to help. 😊
