web: forthenextcourse.com Hi I'm Heather, a professional cook and food content creator, a former marketing executive and for 15 years I was a stay-at-home mum. I re-entered the workforce and changed my entire career in my late 40s. I live in Sydney (best beach and food city!) with my hubby and a schnauzer cross spitz (a Schitz!) called Lillie. I have three kids who

have all flown the coop and while I miss them desperately, I also enjoy being able to wander the house naked, the thrill of a continually clean guest bathroom and not having to decide what to cook for dinner every night unless I feel like it. You can find me on the beach, at a café with a coffee, on a barstool making friends over cocktails or (my fave place..) in front of a mini G&T in an uncomfortable aircraft seat on the way to anywhere, my phone open to IG food videos, wondering what to eat, where to go and what to do FOR THE NEXT COURSE…

Five minutes for peace. That’s the whole thing.

It took me until my forties to work out that I’ve been doing a version of this since I was four years old, and nobody had to teach me.

COMMENT FORT and I’ll send you the guide — seven questions and the practice, printable, made to be written on.

Addi is turning 50 this year!!! Join us for the celebration!

In 1976, volunteers transformed a 60-year-old army depot into a place where everyone could celebrate their culture freely.

Today, we carry that legacy forward, advocating for human rights through food, services, care, and community.

Join us on Saturday, 17 October (10:30am to 2pm) for a multicultural and diversity birthday fiesta featuring local markets and entertainment. It’s our way of saying thank you for five decades of support.

We'd love to see you there. Register for event updates here, and stay in the loop: https://events.humanitix.com/addi-road-fiesta

Free to enter. All welcome.

1. I open my mouth and my mother comes out. And I like it. I’d give anything to have her here just one more time so I could tell her that.

2. I see ageing as the bane of my existence and also my greatest superpower. The sagging skin, the lines around my eyes and cheeks - I don’t recognise myself in the mirror because in my head I am still 19. Two years ago that same body walked a 35 day Camino alone and I’ve never been so grateful for it showing up.

3. I gave up a big job in New York to be at home with my kids for two decades and I’d make the same choice again. But sometimes I look at my powerhouse CEO/lawyer/doctor girlfriends and secretly hope their children are just a little bit crazy.

4. I still don’t have a real financial plan for retirement and that seems pretty irresponsible at this age. But I also have faith that God will give me what I need, even if it’s different to what I think I want.

5. I know a lot of interesting s**t but as my children constantly remind me, that does not equate to wisdom. I keep sharing anyway.

6. I get distressed when my brain farts. Today I went to add something to my shopping list and forgot it in the time it took to open my phone. This makes me forget how grateful I was at number 2.

7. One time I heard someone make a racist comment to a man in the airport lift and I said nothing. The regret has stayed with me for a decade.

Today my goal is to live one minute at a time, fully present…no regrets. Do I stuff it up? Absolutely. All the time. Will I stop trying? No way.

This is my table. I sit around it with friends and try to figure out the recipes for life. You are welcome here. Hit FOLLOW and pull up a chair.

I was 19 when I found that windowsill. I still go there, and I haven’t been in that room for 40 years.

New story is up — about the small spaces we all had as kids and why you still need one.

We met in Italy when I was 19.

Thirty-something years, three kids, a lot of adventures, some truly s**t years and a LOT of therapy later, I know considerably more about love than I did then.

Mostly that falling in love and knowing how to love someone are two very different things.

Still learning. Still practising. Still us. ❤️

Apparently at 58 my coping strategy is… build a fort.

Woke up sick, looked at the to-do list and decided absolutely f**king not.

So I made the world smaller for a bit.

Did I finish the list? No.
Did I survive the day? Yep.
Did I accidentally prove the point of the piece I’m publishing this week? Also yep.

Turns out we don’t outgrow our forts. We just get better bedding.

4am: Do I really want to commit to a 21-day storytelling challenge?

Lunchtime: Went for a swim at Bondi. Pulled an old fortune cookie slip out of my jeans pocket.

“The secret to success is to start before you’re ready.”

6pm: FINE. I’M IN. 😂

Day 1 starts soon. Let’s see what happens.
