House of Vanta VANTA is a Melbourne design house creating steel statements across laser cut metal artwork, sculpture, architectural metalwork and fine metal design.

Founded by Brea Lanyon, VANTA creates custom steel works for homes, hospitality and collectors.

I redrew this piece over 50 times trying to perfect her.
Weeks and weeks, late nights, obsession.

Each revision moved further away from the original energy.

In the end I returned to the first draft.
A reminder that the pursuit of perfection can erase essence.

Everything comes full circle.
The raw line often holds the truth.

Part of the Damasca collection from Skin to Steel.
The patterns she holds are translated directly from Adam’s Damascus knives. I became infatuated with the flowing layers and the centuries-old craft of Damascus steel, where strength and beauty emerge from repetition, pressure, and fire.

Almost FOUR years.

Four years of designing, developing, refining, and restarting this one idea.
3D renders. Then new renders. Then new ones again.
3D models built, scrapped, rebuilt.
Professional 3D scans of our favourite cutlery sets so I could retain what actually matters.
The counterbalance, the weight, the hand feel, the smoothness of the curve and the edge.

On paper it seems like it should be simple.
Take a classic, well-balanced form and layer my motifs into it.
Well apparently it’s not. Silly me.

Along the way I’ve been misled by manufacturers. Then burned again.
Only to finally go through professional design agencies and be told the truth.
To do this properly at the level it deserves costs as much as an apartment.

This is just one idea, I have hundreds more for where VANTA can go.
But this one matters, I’m hell-bent on it.

A huge opportunity has recently come up for me, and I need this to be a part of it.
So I’m putting this back into the universe and asking for help.

My goal is simple.
Proper 3D models and a physical 3D-printed prototype within the next few months, in time for the biggest event of my career in May 2026.

A moment of sudden inner clarity. In Japanese, the word describes that quiet but unmistakable shift when everything becomes understood in an instant.

This piece became the final work I completed for the exhibition, which makes the name precise. She arrived at the end of the Kyoto collection and tied the whole series together, drawing on the same intention of grace, restraint, and disciplined linework that shaped the Kage and Hakanai panels.

Styled with intention and absolute refinement in collaboration with . Mel’s florals elevated the energy of the piece and completed the atmosphere it was created for.
