Gardening is one big experiment. Unfortunately with the weather changing and winter officially starting on Monday, some of the Luffa Gourds are starting to show some spots of rots before they have had a chance to dry out on the vine, so I am experimenting with a few to see how they will go hanging up in the shed. I haven’t tried this before so not sure what will happen but 🤞 it works.

Midyim Berries! A great little Australian native berry that has a bit of an earthy peppery kick to it that is super abundant in the garden at the moment. The last picture has some raspberries to help show the size scale, as they are only very small little berries and I thought the other pictures made them look bigger than what they are.

Growing food is all about slowing down, looking for signs and seeing what the garden is telling you. Harvested the first of the kiwifruit today, because the rats have decided to let me know they are about ready to do so! If you look closely enough at the last picture you will notice some rat nibbles on the fruit at the back, this tells me they have noticed the sweetness is coming as they pass by them each night smelling them. And where they have nibbled some of the fruit the seeds inside the kiwifruit have turned black which is a good sign they about right as well.

A mad rush to prep some of the veggie beds in between running the kids around today with some of my seedlings super keen to get out into the garden. Cleared out a few of the spent tomatoes and the weeds that were trying to take over, then mixed in some Organic Life all round fertiliser gifted from to get some life and feed back into the soil and will now let it sit for a week or two and then I can plant!
A good mix into the soil and watering of the fertiliser will help it start doing its thing and bringing the life back into the soil, giving your seedlings a great head start.

The gardens full of highs and lows at this time of year, super excited with the loofah gourds and hoping the frosts can hold off a little longer to ensure the fully develop, but not excited about having to clear out some of the spent plants to make room for the Autumn plantings.whats happening in your garden at the moment?

Love starting the day with a walk around the garden, even when it is a bit chilli! So many garden jobs waiting to be done with the seasonal changeover, particularly cleaning up some beds and feeding the soil for the next plantings. What are you up to in the garden this weekend?

My mystery apple tree has finally given us its first crop, and they are going down a treat. Not sure the variety, as I saved this tree from someone that was moving house and unfortunately the didn’t know the variety, however I am unofficially going to label it as a red delicious apple as it has a very similar look and taste.

Finger lime deliciousness! Love these tasty little pearls and how they ooze out of the fruit with a gentle squeeze. They also go well in a G&T if you haven’t had the chance to try them. This variety is Judy’s Everbearing.

Fish Peppers! I grow these because I love the variegated leaves and the stripes on the chillies, I just wish the stripes stayed when they are fully ripe rather than just the straight red colour.

Looking up through the garden over the top of the raised veggie bed area by day and then by night, the veggies have a little extra sparkle at night with the shine off the fairy lights.
