Let the sun shine through

It feels like Spring has found its way back to us.

The sun backlit my Lucy quilt so beautifully this evening that it definitely needed capturing. I love that even though she is all sandwiched, the backing shadows through, along with the seams and underlays of appliqué. The quiet little things that are noticed when you’re all alone.

This Tuesday I have a very special 1930’s Grandmother’s Flower Garden from flying geese

The hexagons are small - the widest part of each flower being on 4”. It’s colourful and sweet and stopped my scroll in its tracks!

Another design to add to my quilts I’d like to make one day! This one would definitely be a slow burn! So much hand stitching right there!

One of the hardest parts of my job is not taking that bundle home with me as I walk out the door!!! 🤣

The quilt on the bed is my all time favorite Pieces of Me. and fabric bundles available on our website.

We had a fun Friday Tutorial today looking an appliqué using a wash-away paper. Lots of lovely faces, great questions and hopefully a lot of new appliqué project as a result!

We worked on this lovely little bag- it’s called the Spring Dilly Bag and you can get yourself a pattern and a fabric bundle so you can also give appliqué a whirl. It’s my favourite thing to do!

I originally found this Tuesday’s quilt on Pinterest some time ago. I managed to trace it back to Hat-creek-quilts who had purchased it from Gb-best Antique Quilts ~ Selling Antique & Vintage Quilts

This fabulous four block Whig Rose in its current state has a completely different look to what was intended by the maker. So much of the red fabric in the flowers has worn away revealing the green that has faded less than the outer edges of the rose. This creates a two toned green appearance that I absolutely love! I did find an image of the quilt that showed off the detail in the appliqué scallop edges. The top edge of the quilt(I think) is shown in this photo which is simple and straight without detail - I prefer it this way.

A wonderful quilt design that I definitely want to make one day?? Appliqué will always be my favourite!
