YDM Design Studio Bespoke Homes for Effortless Living

Something that you might not know is that myself and a small group of designers have been working with Andrew Mitchell from for the past year to refine our business values, offerings and processes to be able to better serve our clients. To finish off our year of coaching, we embarked on a Design Retreat that was filled with so much joy, inspiration and excitement. My highlights were our chats with Sarah-Jane Pyke from and Alexandra Kidd from as well as our visit to with a guided tour by the designer

This trip has reminded me of why I do what I do, and just how much I love my job! Our goal has always been to create spaces for joy and connection, and design homes that feel good and function effortlessly. We have come back with renewed energy and can't wait to put all this inspiration into our projects!

One thing I often see homeowners get wrong when it comes to bathroom layouts is a lack of clearance. It can be exciting to imagine what a space could be like, and get carried away trying to fit as much as possible - but a crowded bathroom is an ineffective bathroom.⁣

It's important to ensure that you have enough clearance around each item to move comfortably, open doors and cupboards/drawers without hitting anything, and be able to clean with ease.⁣

And just like that, the work year is over!

2025 has been one of our most difficult but also most rewarding years.

This year we turned 5, welcomed my husband Mark to the team, were nominated for 2 categories at the KBDi awards, shot 8 amazing houses, and designed 9 bathrooms, 6 laundries and 5 kitchens.

What we do would not be possible without the amazing builders, architects, and suppliers that we work with. You all know who you are - thank you!

And of course, most importantly, our wonderful clients. Thank you to everyone who has trusted in us with your home, whether it was a 90 minute consultation or a full design package. We are so grateful for you!

We will be back in the office on the 12th of January 2026.

Last week we had the pleasure of shooting our recently completed Malvern East project. This double storey extension was designed by with all internal cabinetry design, material selections and furniture selections completed by us.

The home feels so welcoming and cosy, with modern touches blending seamlessly with heritage details that pay tribute to the original home. We can't wait to show you more of this amazing home soon!

From bulky and disconnected to calm, cohesive and considered, our Reynolds Rd renovation is a testament to the power of smart design. By focusing on how our clients actually live, and bringing in beautiful finishes that enhance natural light and connection, we’ve created spaces that not only look lovely but feel like home.

If you’re dreaming of a master suite that supports your lifestyle and reflects your personality, we’d love to help you bring it to life.

Lighting is one of the most important tools in interior design. When planned intentionally, lighting can improve your health, elevate your everyday experience, and enhance the feeling of being truly at home in your space.

As with all of our projects, we used a layered lighting approach for our Reynolds Rd project that combined ambient, task, and accent lighting to make the space versatile and user-friendly. For the bathroom, this meant balancing flattering mirror lighting (using wall lights and LED strips) with enough ceiling lights to see clearly. We also chose a feature light that would tie into the warm tones of the main tile while mirorring the vertical shape of the feature tiles.

Welcome to our fifth wellbeing design chat!

This time, we will be talking about cabinetry. Like floorplans, cabinetry might seem inconsequential, but this isn't the case. While poorly thought out cabinetry can turn using spaces into a real headache, cabinetry that is carefully considered will make using spaces effortless, allowing us to spend time on what matters.

With that in mind, we'll chat today about some tips and ideas you can use to make sure your new cabinetry works to improve your wellbeing and comfort.

If you have any other questions or thoughts about the impact of cabinetry, let us know in the comments or send us a message!

Today, we are excited to reveal our recently completed Reynolds Rd project. For this home, we transformed a dated master suite into a spacious, calming and practical retreat tailored perfectly to the needs of our client.

The original ensuite featured a large corner spa bath, which once felt luxurious but was now taking up valuable real estate. To reinvigorate and maximise the space, we removed the spa, relocated the ensuite door, and reoriented the bathroom's layout, which opened up the area and allowed for ample new storage. We also placed the toilet behind a nib wall for a semi-private feel, and expanded the shower to include twin niches for a clean and practical finish.

While the client originally considered green tiles, the ensuite already benefited from lush views of the surrounding courtyard garden through its large windows. To avoid competing with this, we chose a calming denim blue tile that offered depth and personality while still harmonising beautifully with the greenery outside. To add warmth and natural texture, we selected timber-look cabinetry, grounding the space with soft, earthy tones and bringing a sense of quiet luxury.

These are just some of the features and improvements we brought to the new spaces - keep an eye out for more photos from this project over the next few weeks!
