Five Design Decisions That Made This Retreat Feel Spacious

1. A raked ceiling draws the eye upward.
2. High northern windows fill the retreat with natural light.
3. Picture windows frame the garden like artwork.
4. The landscape becomes an extension of the interior.
5. Carefully selected vintage furniture creates warmth and character without overcrowding the space.

When we began designing Love You Bathhouse, we weren't thinking about rooms, we were thinking about moments.

Stepping into a warm bath beneath the vines.

Walking from the sauna into the garden.

Enjoying a slow morning coffee surrounded by birdsong.

Reading in the afternoon sun.

These simple rituals became just as important as the floor plan itself.
For me, great design isn't only about creating beautiful spaces, It's about creating spaces that encourage us to slow down and enjoy everyday life.

Some spaces begin long before you step through the front door.

At Love You Bathhouse, the journey starts in the garden. Native planting, cascading vines, an outdoor bath and a tucked-away sauna create a gentle transition from the outside world into a place of rest.

Every element was thoughtfully considered to slow your pace, quiet your mind, and prepare you for the experience within.

Hand sketching is something we always return to during the concept stage. In a world that’s becoming increasingly digital, the beauty of hand-drawn sketches can easily be missed , but we love embracing the imperfect lines, quick ideas, and creative freedom that comes with putting pen to paper.

We love taking these initial sketches and exploring different mediums, allowing the ideas to evolve and reveal new layers along the way.

Some projects become much more than another design commission, Love You Bathhouse is one of those projects for me.

This retreat is especially close to my heart because I wasn't designing for a client. I was designing for my sister, Niama, her husband, Haydn, and their young family.

When they found a former local pub on a deep block in Castlemaine, I could immediately see the opportunity to create something special. A private one bedroom retreat tucked quietly behind the existing home, where guests could slow down, reconnect with nature and leave feeling restored.

Today, that vision has become a reality, I'm so excited to finally share this project with you. I've also written about the journey behind the design, from the first idea through to the finished retreat, over on our Journal. I'd love you to have a read.

Design Pilgrimage to Moon Gang, Ubud - By Jas

During my recent trip to Ubud, I made a little design detour to Moon Gang by YSG Studio, I was having a full design fan-girl moment! Seeing it in person was every bit as inspiring as I'd imagined.

Moon Gang was rich in craftsmanship and storytelling, every corner I turned revealed another beautiful, thoughtfully considered detail. It left me feeling inspired, energised and full of fresh ideas to bring home!

One of our favourite parts of any project? Pulling together the finishes palette.

For this high end renovation in Melbourne's Inner North,, we've layered luxurious natural materials, handcrafted tiles, rich textures and playful pops of colour to create a home that feels contemporary, sophisticated and just a little unexpected. We love weaving in eclectic moments that catch your eye and give a home its own unique personality.
