We never pull bark off a tree…we gather it sustainably after it has fallen to the ground.

I soak it in fresh water until it becomes soft and pliable enough to wrap into either paper or cloth.
Depending on its thickness, the soak could be anything from a few days to a few weeks long.
Gorgeous tannins leach out of the bark becoming liquid gold for us eco printers and I use it to tone my cyanotypes too…🤎

So not only is it a trees protector that aids in nutrient transport and houses bugs, it’s a quiet and beautiful resource in my printmaking too.

I used a gel plate and printed onto glossy photographic paper.

I have tried various essential oils for this laser jet image transfer technique…and nothing compares to the amazing Oil of Wintergreen!

I have only ever used Laser Prints and no Lavender oil doesn’t quite work as well for me.
The oil does eventually evaporate…takes awhile!

Oil of Wintergreen has a very strong odour…so do this in a well ventilated space…better still…outside.
