A successful renovation starts long before the finishes are chosen.

One of the most important parts of the process is getting the layout right early, because once construction begins, changes become harder, more expensive and more disruptive.

I look at how each space will actually be used: furniture placement, circulation, storage, door swings, cabinetry and how the rooms connect as a whole.

These details can feel small on paper, but they have a big impact on how the home functions day to day.

When the layout is properly resolved from the beginning, every decision that follows has a stronger foundation and the finished home feels more considered, cohesive and easier to live in.

If you’re planning a renovation or new build, this is the kind of thinking that can make all the difference.

Choosing finishes isn't just about picking beautiful things on their own. It's about making sure the colours, textures and materials all work together and feel right for the home.

This is one of my favourite parts of the design process, pulling everything together and seeing the overall scheme start to take shape before anything is ordered.

Interior design fees rarely get explained clearly anywhere online.

Here's a straightforward look at hourly rates, consultation fees, what a kitchen or bathroom design typically costs in Melbourne, and what's usually included (and what isn't) in a design fee.

Enough detail to work out where a designer might fit into your renovation budget.

A first look at the kitchen for Port Elliot.

Light timber. Veined stone. Herringbone floors underfoot. One long island for the whole family.
Full-height joinery, integrated appliances, nothing shouting for attention.

A lovely reminder of why I love this work so much.

This client came to me with a tight timeframe and several decisions to work through before leaving the country. After a two hour consultation in person, I was able to bring the ideas together into a clear practical plan she could move forward with confidently.

Thank you Maddy, for such a thoughtful review. It was genuinely lovely working with you, and I can't wait to see how everything comes together.

If you are feeling unsure about the direction of your home or renovation, a focused design direction consultation can help bring clarity to the next steps

A quick look around the Design & Decor Show ✨

I’ll be honest, I found the show a little underwhelming overall, but it was still worthwhile. I came across a few new suppliers and products that weren’t previously on my radar, which is always useful when sourcing for future projects.

Sometimes the best part of these events is finding the unexpected rather than seeing more of what you already know.

Port Elliot — currently under construction.

The dining room was designed to feel generous and inviting, with a long sculptural table at the centre and seating for family dinners, celebrations and everything in between.

Warm timber, soft upholstery and layers of natural light keep the space calm, while the black-framed doors and bronze pendant add just enough contrast and structure.

These are the renders for now. I’ll share the finished space once it comes to life.

Living area, Port Elliot (render).

Open plan through to the kitchen and dining, so I designed the living zone to hold its own without closing off the rest of the room. The fireplace wall is Venetian plaster. Herringbone oak underfoot. Sheer curtains run floor to ceiling on the window wall, which does most of the work softening a room this open. Green stone coffee table against the cream sectional keeps the palette calm without going flat.

This is a typical render from my projects, produced before construction starts so clients know exactly what they're building. If you're planning a new build or full home renovation send me a DM, or link in bio.

Family room, North Rocks.

Sits off the kitchen so whoever's cooking stays part of the conversation. Channel-tufted sofas in olive velvet. Recessed cove lighting runs the ceiling perimeter with no visible fittings. Wall-mounted TV over walnut joinery, keeping the cables and any media equipment out of sight. Sheer curtains soften the light without losing the outlook.
